+100% PORK+ 🐷🐖

I happened to see a worker carrying a pack of mega marshmallows...(the like you see in ASDA) Which contain 100% Pork Gelatine having checked nyself multiple times. Not very halal for a place that is registered as 100% Halal

Considering the fact I had ordered a smores cookie dough. I asked quite simply to see the packet of the mega marshmallows that were used on the Smores. Bare in mind I had fully witnessed a worker carry the packet directly past me.

I got ignored for around 10 minutes. Until I stood up and asked to see if anyone was coming to show me the packet.

At which stage a few young fellows proceeded to tell me a make believe story, of how they were not obliged to infact show me packets as it could mean me stealing trade secrets. I explained that I am not a dessert shop extraordinaire.

I voiced my concerns regarding the Marshmallow packet, I believe they were using which contained PORK gelatine.

Thus showing me the packet would ease my fears and surely make me look silly.

However they were persistent that they could not show any packaging. I even asked them to cut away the ingredients section so I could eat my dessert in peace. Rather than show me they decided to fob me off as if it were government legislation that they were not allowed to show ingredients of anything.

I have never been spoken too so condescendingly and was made to feel an idiot when i was told that the owner/hierarchy had them under strict instructions to not show any ingredients. Which in fact could be a health and safety issue itself.

I was given 1001 wallahi's. And told "there is not what you are looking for in the marshmallows." I was told time after time. (I.e. pork)

When I asked for the owner to attend given he had the made up rules of trade secrets in place....

He threatened "there will be problems if I have to come down". Not very God-fearing of you brother considering you tried feeding me PORK Gelatine.

Fed up. I requested a full refund and left my uneaten and PORK filled dessert. I was fuming and wanted to confirm what ingredients were used

So:

After a quick phonecall to EIS Cafe Ladypool Road. A very kind and honest person. Confirmed that they ARE indeed the HARAM Mega Marshmallows that are used (American colours and stripes and easy to spot) and do infact contain 100% PORK Gelatine.

Had they been honest and admitted their fault and not used them again. That would have been an easy resolution which wouldn't have led to this review being posted.

A few other things to add: -Very Average ice cream, standards have dropped quite drastically. -Workers have 0 customer service skills and pretend to be empathetic yet lie to your face. -Make sure your dessert doesn't...

Recommended to try this place out by a friend, I thought I'd give it a go and drove down from Leicester with the other half. Immediately catches your eye from the outside and was greeted by a nice chap from behind the till who explained we can take a seat with a menu, decide what we'd like and then come down and order.

Seating upstairs is plenty, cosy and private with the option of leather booths or contemporary table & chairs. Menu was quite hard to read but a quick look through their Instagram and it's easy to make your mind up with what to get, Biscoff Milkshake is definitely worth a try for any Biscoff fans out there.

Desserts were all plentiful and satisfying, service was fairly quick and staff are all super friendly, no request is too much and you feel a genuine nice vibe in the air.

Decor is nothing like your usual dessert parlours in the UK, EIS have gone for a rustic yet inspirational look, with the artwork and quotes that make you stop and think, they've clearly thought out the customer journey from your first step in to when you get seated.

I haven't gone in depth with their desserts because it all comes down to personal preference but what I can say is they put their heart into their craft, each order is carefully presented to make an impression and definitely one you'd love to capture for the gram. Pricing is moderate and what you'd expect from a dessert parlour, if you're expecting cheap corner shop desserts then this isn't for you although there is something for everyone on the menu.

Thank you for a lovely experience, I'll definitely pop by when I'm next in town and give the...

Pros: Extra Sitting up stairs, food was big enough to share. Tasted great & the presentation was amazing. Water machine available which was good as you get a sugar rush & need water. Once you get the hang the app it is easy to order. Buliding was easy to find.

Cons: poor welcome/ customer service , blunt unhappy looking staff, not enough napkins or cutlery given when your meal comes. Confusing menu in regards to extras, & availability in store to what’s been shown social media, would of been nice to speak with staff about the menu etc.

£29 for a milkshake, waffle, extra ice cream & meal.

My honest opinion & 3 star reason: We entered the shop with it being a surprise for the kids they entered saying WOW WOW & super excited. We stood at the front for about 2/3 minutes no staff welcome or interaction. I then approached a very unenthusiastic staff member asking can we sit and order I was told “ sit upstairs “ I was taken back by his bluntness but excited for the food, I then went on to ask is there menus upstairs? Do I order here then sit down? His reply once again was blunt “ you order on your phone via this ( he points to a barcode )”

So we went upstairs took us a little while to order as we was looking at the online menu then the photos on their Facebook page.

Over all great food, great size and taste, however what really let the experience down was the customer service well lack of it from welcome to end it was just...

One word can sum up this place, Hassan, which means good but in this case, the impeccable service providing by Hassan (the person). I always wanted to revisit this place but seeing as it’s in probably the most congested place in Birmingham, it never worked. However today at lunchtime (or breakfast time for the people in this area) I was driving through this neighbourhood and thought to try my luck. Although there was no legal parking available, I conducted a quick risk assessment before parking my vehicle on double yellows ( I am not endorsing this by the way). Hassan welcomed me with an open smile and delightfully took my order and promptly worked his magic to prepare a hot seasoned focaccia sandwich for me which I was longing l for. As a customer service and experienced sales individual he went on to upsell a flat white. Although I was in no way inclined to buy any cakes, the visuals of them all on display made it hard for me to refuse so I had to go for a cheesecake and a Dubai chocolate dream cake. I paid for it and left the premises hoping that I did not receive a dreaded and expensive parking ticket. Although all this food amassed to the equivalent of a parking fine, the food was impeccably tasty and the cakes are truly delightful. This place does get busy in the evenings and I’m guessing it is a combination of excellent service (by Hassan) and the variety of treats on display that is hard for one to say no to.

No offence to Small Heath, but it's unlikely to appear at the top of many bucket lists. However, a visit to Eis Cafe is definitely worth it. Situated 10-15 minutes walk away from the train station, it looks like a normal cafe on the street. Inside though the decor is really well thought out and is well designed. We made the journey to sample a loco-shake having seen them on social media before, but before our calorific overload, we thought it best to have something savoury. There were only a couple of sandwiches on offer but the fillings were varied and as they are served on forcaccia bread they feel different from a lot of standard offerings. The selection of deserts and combinations was mightily impressive and I'm pleased that we'd set out to have a loco-shake else choosing one style of dessert might have been difficult. They've clearly got a lot of ideas and flavour combinations. We went for a cookie special loco-shake and it was delicious; I'm not sure I'd have too many more in the future but was a great experience. The service was very friendly and the guys serving looked to be enjoying taking the orders of customers and seeing their reactions when the items were made. Service is not instant, but that's because they've got to make it all and that wasn't a problem for us .
