OMG - La Nonna is absolutely amazing.
We never knew it was there, yet we love Italian food. The service is 100% spot on, as is the atmosphere - where you are not rushed and can actually enjoy your meal at your own pace. The food is amazing, the flavours are outstanding with portion sizes extremely generous.
The great thing is my wife and I visited on a date night and we were blown away at everything and kept talking about it , telling others about it. Then we decided to go but this time take both our parents as well (our way of saying thank you for everything) ... Everything and I mean everything down to the last detail was the same as our first visit ... No drop in any areas, especially not the food or portion size. This impressed my wife and I, knowing it was not a fluke on our previous first visit. Our parents (who each are all picky) were amazed and loved the place, atmosphere, food, flavour and portion size. One even said they were expecting this fine dining stuff where you pay a lot and get nothing. The mother-in-law, couldn't even eat all her main and they packed it all up for her to take with her.
This place, as long as they don't change is just great and amazing .... The service is next to none and can't be faulted, neither can the atmosphere. You really do get what you pay for, but with the (as it should be) added extra of the portion sizes.
To find a negative ... I am being very very picky. The Champaign options are limited and expensive.
1000% recommend to anyone looking for a great date night meal location, or just for anyone to go out and to eat, drink, enjoy everything (service & atmosphere) and be able to talk.
Excellent, please La Nonna do not make...
Read moreThis is a restaurant that we've been coming to for over 5 years and the food and service has always been first class. However, the original owners have retired and the restaurant is now under new management. We booked a table for 8.00pm and gave our order by 8.20pm. At 9.20pm, 2 tables who had sat down after us were eating their main courses and we were still waiting for our starters! When we complained we were told that the other tables had ordered before us...! We were given some bread to pacify us and subsequently charged for it! The starters eventually arrived and 3 orders of scallops were clearly undercooked. At this point we gave up and left to eat at another restaurant 2 doors down. We paid our bill in full and to be fair, the restaurant gave us a free bottle of wine. However, the service and food was nowhere near as good good as we'd previously experienced and I cannot recommend La Nonna. We all make allowances when a restaurant is busy but tonight it was only 2/3 full and there was no apology for what was a terrible experience, particularly as we'd booked 3 days ago when the diary was completely empty! I wish the new owners every success for the future but sadly it will be without our business and I'm sure there must better Italian restaurants in Birmingham where your monies will be...
Read moreWhat a gem this is, a little piece of Italy. We booked prior to going to see Peter Kay at World Resort.... this place is just 10.minutes away from all the chaos.
Great food in a lovely little restaurant. The menu was extensive, something for everyone. The food we ordered was delicious and the portions sizes very generous. I had the Caprese that was light and tasty. I followed that up with monkfish, mussels and garlic mash from the specials menu.. absolutely fantastic. My wife had the bruschetta with mushrooms and dolcelatte cheese. Delicious and enough for two to share without doubt. This was followed by polio bianca neve. Again a tasty and delicious plate of food. The other members of our group had bruschetta all'pomodoro and calamare fritti followed by Tagliatelle Pollo e Gamberetti. We finished with dessert although we were pretty full at that point. If you're in the area then don't miss out on such great food, support local you out be disappointed. It's just a shame it's over an hour from home ! Just need to ring an excuse...
