We were not at all impressed.
First of all, we were not attracted by the facade which appeared to front a small cafe, the window and door being made of grubby, white painted wood.
However, we discovered a second glass door that looked more pleasant, and the main entrance, and decided to see what was on offer.
It opened onto a larger space than was anticipated.
This seemed hopeful.
As a type 1 diabetic, my diet has to take into account insulin requirements. That means I need to work out what foods on offer are least glycaemic, and the amount of insulin and the timing of injections are paramount considerations.
I decided the best food for me that was available at this cafe was the Nicoise salad.
To slow down glucose absorption and to add protein too, I asked if I could have a little cheese. I also asked if I could have olive oil as other dressings often contain sugar. I also enquired about waiting time as after insulin injection the meal needs to be eaten within 20-30 minutes.
Despite enquiring at the point of ordering about these various factors, and the waitress assuring us she would find out, she did not return with any answers, and five minutes or more later I therefore decided to go up to the counter to ask again.
When I asked again, I was told I
"could not have cheese because it was market day" (?!); They could not give me any olive oil as they did not have any.; and They were unable to give me any idea as to how long the wait for food was!
We found this total lack of consideration for an individual's dietary and health issues/needs completely unacceptable, and as a consequence told the waitresses so, and then simply walked out, taking our custom to another restaurant which willingly and happily supplied a suitable and lovely meal across the road.
So, the advice is: if you have any specific dietary needs, avoid this cafe....
Neither the waitresses nor (apparently) the manager /owner gives a...
Read moreFrom our Instagram 🥖 Maison Mayci, Moseley We were invited to @maisonmayci in Moseley to try their evening menu; yes that’s right they don’t just do amazing lunches and pastries. They now do gorgeous three course meals in the evening too but only Fridays and Saturdays till 10pm. Serving up some of the best French cuisine right here in Moseley. @maisonmayci was opened by two brothers (Rami and David) 16 years ago. They have a place in Mosleley and one in Kings Heath too. In the summer the Moseley branch has a great garden which is a real sun trap. Rami and David are the ones in the kitchen too preparing these great dishes. These photos are of our two starters, we had the Trio de Houmous and the Assiette de Charcuterie (cold meats, bread and olives) The starters were spectacular. Tasty houmous, juice meats and in particular, the olives 😍 The restaurant is lovely and open, fresh and warm and relaxed. Everyone should give @maisonmayci a go, maybe be braver then I and try the frogs legs 🐸 More photos to follow of the mains and desserts . . . . #maisonmayci #frenchcuisine #french #houmous #meat #frenchfood #starters #Birmingham #lovebirmingham #lovebrum #solihull #moseley #lovefood #foodporn #drinks #drinkporn #foodies #foodiesofbrum #whattoeat #eatout #foodlover #vegan #vegetarian #glutanfree #foodstagram #goodfood #instagood #instafood...
Read moreI have been a regular customer at this place for the past 4-5 years, my visit today was disgraceful! The food was bland and very dry, all four of us didn't enjoy the food at all. Very sub - standard food trying to be a lot better then what it actually was- presentation was very good, just highly lacking in the taste department. So we complained to the waitress about one of our meals first, then spoke to the cook because in actual fact non of us were enjoying our meals. The cook/managers attitude was disgusting! If you are reading this let me tell you how this should have been handled 25% off the other meals with one free? No I am well within my customer rights to not pay for food I am not happy with. You should not have let another employee deal with out payment at all! You knew we were unhappy, therefore you should have came straight to the till as soon as you saw us approaching. You made us wait whilst having a chat and laugh with what seemed to be a regular customer? No, anyone with any sort of customer service skills would have been over to us as quick as possible! And constructive criticism should always be taken on board, as we mentioned we know the food industry. It was the lack of customer service that actually made...
