Great flavours, well presented. As I walked up Poplar Road from the High Street, I could smell something great wafting it's way through the early afternoon air. I followed my nose and ended up in Mansa Musa. I waited a brief moment and the gentleman arrived to greet me. I requested a large curry goat with rice and peas. I was offered steam veg which I happily accepted. ÂŁ10 (takeout) was handed over and I took a seat while the gentleman went and warmed my food. A few minutes later my food was ready, packaged in a sectioned tray with fitted lid. This is different to normal Caribbean takeaways, where it's customary to have a polystyrene tray wrapped with metres of cling film. I would have stayed in the restaurant and eaten it there, however the sign on the wall explaining it would cost me an extra ÂŁ3 to eat in, detered me from doing so. After walking to the church up the road, and finding a suitable place to sit and eat, I opened the bag and found a well presented, reasonable sized portion of curry and rice. It was hot and tasted great, as good as I've tried anywhere in Birmingham. Would I return? Yes. Will I pay an extra three quid to sit down? No thanks. Which is a shame, as I would probably have purchased a cold drink to accompany my food. Instead, I grabbed one...

Restaurant Review: A Taste of Jamaica

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.9/5)

If you’re looking for an authentic Jamaican dining experience, look no further than this gem located just to the right as you leave the Asda car park. The cozy atmosphere instantly makes you feel at home, and the staff, who are genuinely Jamaican, add a warm and welcoming touch to your visit.

I started with the mutton soup, which was absolutely delightful—perfectly seasoned and comforting. For my main course, I opted for the chicken and steamed vegetables served with rice and peas, along with some delicious curry goat. As any Jamaican will tell you, fry chicken with curry gravy is a must-try, and this place nailed it! The food was well-seasoned, and the flavors were undeniably authentic, reminding me of home.

While the decor could benefit from a more traditional touch, it still effectively represents the culture. One great feature is the option to pre-order, which is perfect for those who want to enjoy their meal without the wait.

The average dinner price ranges from £8.50 to £13, depending on your drink choices—quite reasonable for such high-quality dishes.

Card and cash payments can be made.

Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant. Well done, guys—keep up the...

A Taste of Authentic Jamaica: Highly Recommend Mansa Musa

Mansa Musa offers an exceptional culinary journey into authentic Jamaican cuisine, delivering a truly memorable dining experience. From the moment you step in, the establishment exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for both a relaxed dine-in meal and a convenient takeaway. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly their Jerk Chicken, which is masterfully prepared, bursting with flavour, and perfectly complemented by the savory Rice & Peas and fresh, expertly cooked steamed vegetables. Each dish showcases the rich, home-cooked tradition of Jamaican food, leaving a lasting impression of quality and authenticity. Beyond the remarkable food, Mansa Musa stands out for its professional and attentive service. The staff contribute significantly to the pleasant ambiance, ensuring that every visit is comfortable and enjoyable. This commitment to excellent service, combined with the delicious and appetising drinks on offer, truly elevates the overall experience. For anyone seeking genuine, home-cooked Jamaican food in an inviting setting, Mansa Musa comes with my highest recommendation. It's a culinary gem that consistently delivers on taste, atmosphere,...

Terrible quality, usually go to Blue Marlin or Rooster House for exceptional Caribbean food, don’t make the mistake of going here. Happy to provide bog standard food, the chewiest dumplings, left there for god knows how long, hardly warm, tiniest portions and supposed to be size medium? The bag felt like there was nothing in it.. minimal meat, and not joking when I say 3 pieces of tiny sweetcorn and a sprinkle of cabbage for the steamed veg. Called up to be told would have to pay 1.50 extra to have more steamed veg? And cans cost 2.20.. not to mention £3 service charge per person to eat in .. glad I didn’t make the mistake of doing that but I knew as soon as I got there with the young lad behind the counter that it wouldn’t be as quality as made out. If you are dishing out authentic recipes from 1440 then at least make it live up to its name. Pretty much didn’t even touch it after being out off that it was more like a meal made for the sake of it to earn a quick pound rather than a warm homely meal how it should be served. £22.50 later and I am now on the way to Blue Marlin.
