Whilst there is a lovely atmosphere and decor here, the wait to receive your food is extremely long, even when it isn't busy which is annoying. On a few occasions, they have run out of milk chocolate and did not tell us until after we had gone up to the till to order, which just wasted our time as milk chocolate is a staple in a dessert shop and we are regular customers. Communication could be better to prevent customers from being disappointed. I've seen on multiple occasions that staff members don't wear masks themselves but ask customers to, which makes no sense.
So I visited again in September after the COVID-19 restrictions had eased and I was disappointed again. As before, the waiting time was really long and we saw other people who arrived after us being served their desserts first. However, our main issue was that when our cookie doughs arrived, the ice cream on top had completely melted and it was basically a puddle on top. My sister complained to staff that her cookie dough base was cold so she asked for it to be reheated and for the ice cream to be in a separate bowl. The wait for her cookie dough was absolutely ridiculous! The rest of us had finished our desserts in that time; we had to because our ice cream was melting as well. But the staff used no initiative to take all of our desserts back and serve them altogether. When my sisters cookie dough arrived back to the table, the ice cream was again on top of the cookie dough. She had to complain and ask yet again. We asked for water with no ice specifically and of course, we received a jug of iced water.
I really don't understand why the staff are unable to follow simple instructions and use common sense, such as understanding that one person will now receive her dessert long after the rest of us. It ruins the experience. It is clear that the standards and service skills are simply not there, so I will probably not return again. There are much better dessert places, with helpful...
Read moreI love the fact that so many of these Dessert shops are springing up everywhere and that so many of them provide great deserts in clean, modern, upmarket and tastefully decorated venues.
The 'Little Dessert shop' is no different and is a fairly newish inclusion to Kings Heath's burgeoning desert eatery scene.
The shop easily rivals and supersedes 'Heavenly Desserts' (Ladypool Road) and 'Dessert Lab' on Alcester Road, in Moseley.
From the moment we walked into the time we left, we were afforded the best service imaginable. We were offered suggestions on what to order, and on 2 occasions staff came over to make sure everything was ok with our order and if anything else could be provided.
Prices are exceptionally reasonable. We ordered 1 'Strawberry Sensation', 1 lot of 'American brownies' and 1 'Broken Rainbow' and the bill came to just £ 16.95 - cheaper than we expected. My wife, son and I all enjoyed the food and only because we had to be elsewhere, did we not order anymore. The portions were generous and the one has to mention the Waffles which were cooked to a tee, and were hot, soft, yet crunchy on the outside.
This is a great dessert shop. Parking is free at nearby Asda (for up to one and a half hours) or around £1.00 just outside for up to 2 hours.
The reviews may be almost evenly divided for this shop between those who loved it and those who abhorred it, but I think that in the fullness of time, with improved customer service, it will revert to more people having a favourable impression and experience of the place.
If you're like me, go ahead and treat yourself at this 'joint' and you will come back content and happy. More importantly you...
Read moreService is really bad. I wouldnt even rate it one star. So we went in and waited to be seated. Instead of a colleague showing us to a table she just shouts from behind the counter and points at a table saying you can sit there. Which seemed pretty rude as most workers come over to you, say hello and show you to a table but no not at this place. So we sat down and theres no menus so we waited 15 mins for someone to give us a menu. No one came up to us so I asked a waitress walking past how do we order. She told us you need to look at the menu online and order yourself at the counter Which is fine even but staff or the colleague who pointed us our table should have told us this..as when it is your first time somewhere you dont know how their service works. In normal desserts places you are welcomed and seated, leaving menus on the table and staff coming over after 5 mins to ask if you are ready to order but no not this place. They wont even approach you to ask if eveything is ok and if they can help which would be ideal if you havent ordered anything for the past 15 mins and seem alittle confused on wheres the menu! Dessert was decent nothing wow But i wouldnt go again due to the poor service from the staff and the lady shouting over the counter that oh you can sit there and point to the table instead of approaching you with a warm welcome. Unwelcoming staff who cant...
