We went to rodeos on Saturday evening for the Morgan wallen tribute. We booked tickets online three weeks before, it was £41.50 each for a 2 course meal with welcome drink (and the tribute). Sounded good to us! Saturday afternoon I received an answer machine message saying that it was now a one course meal and we would each have £10 knocked off our final bill. I didn’t return the phone call so I’m not sure of the reason why only main meals were available. Anyway We’d looked at photos of the food and knew not to expect anything other than cheap pub grub however that was a massive understatement..
we arrived at 7pm, walked straight in, unsure of where to go, there was no one immediately obvious to seat us so we walked to the bar for our welcome drink. A waitress did come over after a few minutes and took us to our table and said someone else would be over. Fifteen minutes later we began to think maybe we had misheard and should go to the bar but our waitress came over and took our order.
We asked about our welcome drink but she explained that the £10 knocked off was to cover that. Strange because cocktails are £8 each and presumably starters are more than £2 so I’m not sure of the maths there.
Ordered food and drink, another 15/20 mins and the “cocktails” came. I don’t know if they’re pre mixed or just the cheapest nastiest ingredients but throughout our evening we tried a selection of the cocktails and they were all overly sweet and unpleasant . My friend had four mojitos and each one tasted completely different. The cocktail menu is very large, I’d recommend they limit it to ten recipes and learn how to make them. Quality over quantity. Oh also served in plastic glasses. For £8/£9 a cocktail I really don’t want a plastic glass.
So then the food arrived. We already knew it would look basic but how bad can chicken tenders/ chicken burger and a veggie burger be? Well let me tell you, the chicken tenders were very hard and the veggie burger was inedible. (Chicken breast burger was fine!) we suspect the food had been cooked and reheated in the microwave (which we could see from our table) as the veggie burger had that microwave “crust” all the way round that you get when you blast something for too long. I did tell our waitress this and she did offer to send them back but I think we all knew it wasn’t worth the bother. Our waitress was lovely, she was so professional and a really friendly helpful member of staff.
I’m not sure exactly what time the tribute act came on but I would say probably around 9pm and we could hear he put on a good show. Sadly we couldn’t see him. The venue is in three sections, the stage being at the top end of the middle section so If you’re seated in the middle then great, you get to see. If you’re sitting either side you can’t see. At all. We did see many guests in the middle area singing along and having a great time so I do think the tribute was good.
Once the tribute had finished the bucking bronco was switched on and everyone moved from their tables over towards that. People had fun. Then it was turned off.
we paid £30 each for a show we couldn’t see and one course meal that was largely inedible. We did hear another group saying they’d paid £19 to just come to see the music- that wasn’t an option on the website when we booked and we would have much preferred to do that.
Throughout the evening we were constantly looking out for our waitress to be able to order more drinks/ to see where our drinks were. Presumably they’re doing table service because the bar is small but they just cannot cater for the size of the venue. Many more staff are needed. And yes we could have left or not ordered any more drinks BUT we had already paid and there is no where else in walking distance so we did feel that staying was the best option for our evening out.
I definitely would not recommend Rodeo’s and I would never go again. Considering they already have a venue in Wolverhampton I just cannot understand how everything is so bad in...
Read moreI'm gonna tell you a story about how and why I've given Rodeos slack in the past, but I'm done now.
My first experience in Wolverhampton was great. My steak was amazing, we got free cowboy hats and free goes on the bull. Me and my sister said we'd definitely go back again.
We went back. My sister had been jealous of my steak previously, so she got that. Me and my dad split the Rodeo 66 sharer. We waited well over an hour for the food, and the steak was only half the size as last time and cooked to death. It was grey through. We sent it back. Twice. By which time me & my Dad had noticed items missing off our Route 66, like Pitmaster beans and beef ribs, but we couldn't be bothered complaining again. It was incredibly busy and by this point, nearing the end of the night, so we just left it.
Then they opened the Birmingham one. Great. Right by us. We went opening week. They had a set menu and we ordered straight away. They were so busy the waiters weren't taking drinks orders and it was 5 deep at the bar. Ok, it is opening week. But then it took over 2 hours for our food to come out. This was now gone 9pm. None of us were impressed with the food that finally arrived. We ordered a bucket of beer, to save us keep going to the bar. They didn't put any ice or even water in the bucket, so the beers were warm.
I'll give them some slack, because it was opening week. After today, however, I'm done. Me and my partner went with friends and their kids. Our server Chris was lovely and very polite when dealing with our complaints, and Maddie was very good at running and managing the bull with the kids. It took us a while to order, because they've switched up their menu so our preconceived plans were scuppered. There is no longer a 2 person sharer platter on offer. So we ordered 2 mixed grills - the BBQ Pitmasters Tray, some sides and 2 kids meals. We'd already been there a while, because we played on the Bull first and the kids got to look around at the stage and various Americana. Luckily it was nice and quiet. It still took over half an hour for food to start arriving, which surprised me because when it's 3 hour cooked sausage and 14 hour torn pork, surely it's just a case of serving it up? The 2 Trays came out first. Then the kids food. After 15 minutes we chased our sides and complained the food was now cold, and the Trays were missing any chicken. When there's only 5 items on the Tray now (down from 11), this isn't really acceptable. I'm now wondering how often they short change their customers and whether this is common practice. So the Tray's went back. By now it's gone 3pm, we've been here over 2 hours, we're hungry. We ate the sides. 15 minutes later, the Trays came back. This just isn't acceptable when it's quiet. The chicken was also awful - it was supposed to be tenders, but there was nothing tender about it. It was as dry as anything, the whole dish, and they'd obviously just shoved our Trays under the hot plate or something, because now the pickles were hot. That was gross. We suspect all of their food is actually microwaved, so not actually fresh BBQ food. Except for the onion rings. They were very nice. Shame we couldn't enjoy them with our meal. By this point, the kids are long finished and extremely bored. Then there was the drinks. The first order they forgot my orange juice and lemonade. Then, it came with little more than a shot of orange juice, so that went back. Orange juice and lemonade should be 50/50. My friend sent back her faux mojito. My partner didn't like his cream soda. It wasn't what we expected at all. I then ordered a cocktail. It was extremely sugary.
In the end, we gave up and went to a different restaurant for dessert. Suffice to say, 3 poor experiences is my limit. So I won't be back again.
I know it's primarily a music venue, and I would rate it as such, if the bill didn't also come to £140 and we had to then go eat somewhere else! And if the drinks hadn't been...
Read moreWe visited Rodeos on Friday for a ticketed event as part of a birthday celebration and it was a disaster.
The event started at 7pm. Our food order was taken just before 8pm and the starters arrived at 9pm. Half of the table received their main course (beef burgers) at 10pm whilst those having chicken had to wait another 45 minutes until 10:45pm!! Every time we asked staff about the ETA of the remaining dishes they said they didn’t know and were not forthcoming with a resolution. The taste of the food was fine with the exception of one which arrived with a hair in it and sent back. I am unsure why the food was so delayed given there was a set menu for the event and the event was ticketed, so they should have some indication of how much food is required for patrons and appropriate staffing levels. I would suggest that they remove the food element from future events until they have the capacity and capability to manage it better.
The event operated on a table service only basis which was unfortunately terrible. We ordered our first round of drinks which came with numerous errors (for example, wrong mixer for the spirit and staff unable to confirm whether a drink was a mojito or the non alcoholic version that had been ordered). Drinks also arrived at our table that weren’t ours and when we told the waitress she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Drinks were coming over in dribs and drabs, I would suggest in future ensuring the full table’s order is ready before bringing over the drinks as staff didn’t seem able to confirm what order is for what table. We ordered final round of drinks which never arrived after two hours. Staff were unable to give us an update when asked on numerous occasions where the drinks were in the respective queue. I would suggest scrapping the table service and allowing patrons to order at the bar or employing an app service to take orders and allow staff to focus simply on delivering those orders to the table. Two people in our party of 11 never received a drink in the entire time we were at the venue with the exception of the welcome drink (which we had to go to the bar and ask for as it was not forthcoming and we may as well not have bothered as it was tiny!)
We decided to leave early after not receiving food (for ages) and no drinks for two hours but even this was difficult as the bill produced did not match what was ordered. There is something seriously broken with the translation of orders into action that must be fixed for this venue to thrive.
I can’t fault the performance of the entertainment as they were fantastic but we didn’t feel able to enjoy the show and dance to maximum ability as we were constantly wondering where our food and drinks were and it was like you had to sit at the table to be able to confirm that whatever arrived was what you actually ordered. The atmosphere has the potential to be electric.
I confronted the manager (who spent a large portion of the night hiding in the back avoiding others who wanted a resolution to the ongoing service problems) about the issue who whilst agreeing a satisfactory resolution with me, was quite rude. He suggested that he won’t be able to pay the performers because of people like me who are unsupportive of independent businesses. On reflection, this is a highly unfair and unprofessional comment as we still paid over £440 in tickets for what was an extremely poor experience. Also, had we actually been able to order drinks and receive them, we probably would have spent at least £300/£400 behind the bar. It was the inadequate service, if anything, that is responsible for this business es inability to pay performers.
There is a very clear management problem that unfortunately without significant changes will not allow the venue to reach its full potential as the setting is fantastic and you can’t fault the decor that gives off an authentic...
