Edgbaston is the home of some of the best places to eat in Birmingham but unless you live there or work in the area not many people will know about it's hidden gems. You're paying a little more but it comes with the ultimate fine dining experiences with lovely outdoor spots as the summer arrives. I managed to get a booking in for a client meeting and I must say I was impressed with the food. The soup and fish of the day was my option and without feeling bloated I was surprised I couldn't even finish my main. Whether you're going for drinks or you want a lunch this is a great place to visit but pre-warning, it's always best to reserve a table. The decor and natural light in the Highfield is one of many reasons why I'll keep coming back.

The Highfield is not cheap but when you look at the surroundings and taste the food you realise that your money was well spent. We had booked a a room (the fox room) for a birthday party which included a three course meal. A waitress was assigned to us for the duration and she dealt with our drinks orders very quickly and courteously. Another waitress was on hand when the food arrived for each course which meant that noone was left waiting for their food order too long. The menu for room bookings is more limited than their restaurant menu but everyone (and there was 16 of us) found something we liked and we all enjoyed what we were served when it arrived. Parking is always an issue in this part of Edgbaston so plan ahead if you can.

We came Sunday evening around 7.30pm. Took 10 minutes to even be noticed at the bar. Had two cranberry mojitos, first one tasted better that the second. Gave the barman feedback at the same time. Didn’t drink the second one was far too sweet. Got seated to table number 53, the guy who showed us to the table was very polite, told us that our waiter kam would attend to us. 18 minutes later didn’t see our waiter so we had to get up and leave. Complained to someone at the bar, couldn’t find the manager to give back feedback. Went on to the website couldn’t find a email address. Really unhappy customers, was looking forward to trying them for the first time after I heard such great things about them.

We visited The High Field Pub today for a belated Mothers Day meal.

When searching for somewhere, we wanted somewhere that looked nice and wasn't a Chain Restaurant, and this seemed to tick the boxes.

I'm so pleased we did find it.

On arriving, we were a little confused about which bit was the Restaurant as the hotel is next door, but as soon as we spotted the sign in the very spacious carpark, we knew where we were heading.

The service was excellent from the moment we arrived. The table was ready for us and we were shown to it immediately, we were then offered water for the table followed by Drinks Orders.

The staff were extremely attentive.

For starters I had a Baked Camembert which proved so much of a hit for the rest of the table, I didn't get much of a chance to have it!

Main courses, all the adults had Sunday Roasts.

The beef could be literally pulled apart with a fork, it was cooked perfectly and clearly of exceptional quality. The Yorkshire Puddings were very generous, and extra potatoes and Yorkshire Puddings were offered around 5 minutes into the meal. It was one of the best Roasts I've had in a very long time, if not the best Roast I've ever had.

The menu is very varied, there really is something for everybody, from Fish (which they have a Fish Night on wednesdays which I'm hoping to try), to Roasts, to Curries.

We had both children with us who were made very welcome, and the childrens menu catered to them very well. It's varied and very good quality. Not a Turkey Dinosaur in sight!

Our desserts were excellent, one of our party described the Chocolate Brownie as "the best they've ever tried".

I opted for Raspberry Sorbet for dessert, I was asked how many scoops I would like, not told how many, which I think was a lovely touch.

We were offered drinks on a couple of occasions during the main meal, but never intrusively. The drinks menu is also excellent, from excellent wines by the glass or bottle, to beers, soft drinks and a very varied Cocktail Menu!

Then the bill time! I was dreading it, but I was pleasantly surprised, there is a 10% service charge included (which was more than justified), and without this our meal totalled around £24.00 a head, for the quality of the food and the excellence of the service, it was a bargain.

An amazing restaurant, we'll certainly be...

Came here for my birthday. We had gone elsewhere originally, but foolishly didn’t check the menu online, and it wasn’t really to our liking.

So we ended up taking a short walk here.

We haven’t been for a few months, as a guy here (possibly the manager) has been rude and snappy with us a few times. Tonight was anything but that. It was a great experience and really restored my confidence in this place.

The bad (if I have to say it) Two staff. And one of them - Will, I think? - pulled from the bar. Absolutely wonderful lads, who managed to look after the entire main area of the restaurant, but clearly needed help. It would have been a lot more efficient with just one more person. But they did their best. They were warm and welcoming, offering wonderful advice, remembering it was my birthday, and just having fun with us. This counts for SO much, and it’s a big reminder of how awesome this place can be.

The good? Again, the two guys on waiter duty. Much respect for managing to look after the place. You were excellent. The gent who made me a whisky sour. My favourite cocktail, and I just haven’t managed to get one in Birmingham since I came back from abroad. And he made it to perfection. Even including the egg white. What. A. Legend. The chicken wings. I know, I know. They’re chicken wings. But that glaze…

Honestly, the food is always good here. My burger was decent, but I wish I had had my wife’s summer aubergine salad. That was absolutely amazing.

Excellent wine choices. I appreciate they are triple retail price, but they’ve clearly gone through work to source, as Highfield has never let me down with a good wine. So I’m happy to pay. And one of the best things? We didn’t even have to pay much as they gave me £25 off with it being my birthday…

Food, ambience, cleanliness, decor - all great.

But it’s the people that will keep me coming back. And the staff on tonight… Will and the other gent. And the legendary bartender (Steve? Apologies if I have that wrong).

Just a really good birthday meal, folks. Not too pricey, and the most fun my wife and I have had out in...

My wife and I don't live locally and on 25th January 2018, I got a phone call that I had been waiting for, for over 2 years from the QE hospital. A donor liver had been found which would safe my life. We jumped in the car in a total daze and made the 3 hour journey in time. It was late at night and my wife needed somewhere to rest whilst I had the 8 hour operation as was too tired and emotional to safely make the journey home. I called Adrian just before I went to the operating theatre and he sorted absolutely everything out for my wife! In her words:-

It was a delightful room, the decor was amazing, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom and complimentary items (essential as I had nothing with me) were exceptional. The coffee and tea within the room was like home, not out of little sachets, but nice pots. Homemade shortbread was a welcome snack. The room was super quiet, it was warm and the heating was easily controlled.

I sat in the lovely kingsize bed with huge headboard and in the blissful silence was able to email via the free wifi throughout the early hours, it was the most perfect place to be when I was so alone and so far from home with only my fears to know if I would ever see my husband again.

One wonderful touch was in the foyer, I couldn't sleep and in the foyer found a fridge stocked with chilled wine and prosecco, a counter with snacks and other alcoholic and soft drinks, fresh milk - just perfect! But how do I pay for it???? AN HONESTY BOX! Well that small bottle of Prosecco was worth x 100!

I got the phone call from the transplant co-ordinator to say he was out of surgery and in intensive care, I made the most of the amazing bathroom and left before breakfast so can only imagine that breakfast would have been as good as the first class bedroom and ensuite.

If I ever have to stay overnight in or close to the area again, I quite simply would not look anywhere else! Please book this accommodation with total confidence. It is worth every single...
