I needed to meet a client around junction 28 of the M1 and suggested the Castlewood. First impression was it looked tired. We ordered drinks at the bar, the only draught beer available was Doombar, which was poured by a member of staff who was more interesting in getting back to his friends at the end of the bar than the task in hand.
Most of the tables were reserved, even though they were never used all evening, but eventually we found what I thought would be a quiet corner to discuss business. At this point I noticed both beers had gone flat as well as one being a short measure. We drank them and then moved onto a bottled beer, because how could that possibly go wrong!? For some reason the bartender opened the bottle and then with his hand wiped the top of the bottles before handing them to me. No glasses, just bottles!
We continued our meeting and a family came in with a young child. The child was allowed to run around the tables screaming and shouting, which was very distracting. The parents were totally oblivious to it all, as were the staff. While I fully appreciate children are allowed in pubs and need to be child friendly these days, I would have thought some sort of control would be expected by the establishment. Not all adults want to sit in a Wacky Warehouse. This was so bad we decided to call the meeting off.
My experience was embarrassing and not one I would wish to repeat. I am so pleased we didn't eat there. Will I go back….. absolutely not nor would I...
Read moreGroup of 12 (8 adults 4 children) went for a meal at around 3.00pm the pub itself wasnt busy. Order our food took around an hour to come, when it arrived one meal (prawn and salmon pasta) only came with 1 prawn, two other meals (pie burgers) came cold and tried out. Another meal a (combo sharer) had been sat for soo long the bbq had formed a very thick skin that when u put your finger on it, it would lift out the sliver bowl and your finger would come out with and sauce on. Another meal a (chicken burger) had stale cob and very dried out chicken. The kids meal well i wouldnt even feed it to my dog disgraceful! When we got a lady to come and change the food we was told it is all pre packed food you get what you are given. I then asked to see the manager he also agreed the food was awful and he wouldnt eat it either. However the service was shocking it took a while to even beable to get thay response due to them being "busy"all tables wer empty. They offered to replace our food but wouldn't give us a refund. So we explained that the food wasnt safe to eat here and demanded a refund however he would only refund the adult meals and not the children's. Worse service and food ever experienced! Then went home to cook a half decent meal after ruining a faimly...
Read moreI had the carvery late on a Sunday. I really should have looked at it before ordering. It was awful. Everything was dry, the meat was grisly (as it was the last bits). If I was the manager, I would have closed the carvery down much earlier. I had higher hopes for other meals that my family had, however, most left some and said they didn't really enjoy it for different reasons. We did decide to try the puddings, unfortunately again most family members did not enjoy them. We are not a picky family or picky eaters, but I'm sorry to say the food (today) was not up to scratch. The upside. The staff were amazing! All of the ones we spoke to or had dealings with were fantastic and so helpful. They brought the Birthday cake out for my grandson and even sang Happy Birthday to him with us... and they even gave him a present. We could not want for better service. The atmosphere was good and it's great to bring the children so they can play in the play area. If the food was better, it would be a brilliant place. Unfortunately, the food (for us) sorely let it down. Fingers crossed, the food is better next time. A huge thank you to all the staff... You...
