The Pillar of Rock, next to Bolsover Castle: I absolutely love it here! This establishment provides a seamless and efficient dining experience, thanks to the convenience of ordering via an app. You can easily pick up your coffee (if you've paid for one) and other orders with minimal interaction, which is ideal for those who appreciate a quick and straightforward service. The menu is straightforward but satisfying, offering good quality food that complements a visit to the scenic Bolsover Castle nearby. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed meal after exploring the historic site. The staff at The Pillar of Rock are notably friendly and sincere, adding to the welcoming atmosphere of the place. Their approachability and prompt service contribute significantly to the enjoyable experience here. A word to the wise for first-time visitors: as with many Wetherspoons, the journey to the toilets is an adventure in itself, involving numerous stairs and corridors. Make sure to allow extra time for your trek to the restrooms. Overall, The Pillar of Rock offers a delightful dining experience with its combination of simplicity, efficiency, and friendly service, rightly earning it a full five stars.

Jan 2024 our 3rd visit . We now live nearby and hopping to visit every month if standards have not dipped from last visit. Glad to say we had 2 x 2 course meals and drinks for under £30. We arrived at 12.40 if you arrive after 14.00 prices drop for a limited time. Very good service friendly , nice atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit. Our 1st visit here early dec 2022 was really disappointing. The food was cold and bad service. Today 16th jan 2023 we were in the area again and thought 2nd chance. Come on it is a weatherspoons so it should be good value. On entering I saw that there was a manager offer on several meals. I picked fish and chips and a cup of tea for under a fiver. £4.98. Wife went with a menu dinner. For the price I expected a small portion. I was delighted when I saw it . Also it tasted really good . Fish was pipping hot. Wife said her meal was miles better too. We stayed at our table afterwards for a couple of more free refills of tea. We are moving near here and was disappointed in Dec thinking we must be near the worst weatherspoons in the UK . Today we are now looking forward to many meals here this year

Went for dinner yesterday evening around half 5 the young blonde girl who’s served us had quite an attitude when she brought over our food she basically threw our food and cutlery on the table and as she walked away with her back just muttered something about where the sauces where , the food was okay apart from my BBQ bacon and chicken panini , the bacon was really fatty more fat than bacon and the fact there was foil in the panini , half way through eating the girl looked over the balcony bit of table 20 and said “ everything okay with your food “ walked away before we even had time to speak and no one came to empty our plates we looked for Someone as we where leaving to complain about it but there was no one around .

The Pillar of Rock is a large JD Wetherspoon pub that's directly adjacent to the village's single tourist attraction, Bolsover Castle. That's certainly the reason why the pub can get VERY busy during lunchtime, especially on weekends. The layout of this place is very straightforward (one very large barroom), and there's a smaller outside seating area to the front. Otherwise, it's pretty much JDW 101: cheapest drinks in town, including a fair rotating selection of cask ales (though smaller than at some other "Spoons"), inexpensive, streamlined pub food, not terribly forthcoming staff, etc. But a good lunch option after a visit to the castle, which is really the only reason to travel to Bolsover.

After ordering on the app, the drinks arrived really quickly. After waiting for nearly a hour for food to arrive I had to go and ask at the bar when it would be served. The food: well overcooked the "American style beef burger I ordered was burnt and was only different from the regular burger because they added a gurkin.. the service... well lack of it.. not a single member of staff came to see if everything was OK, the staff have changed and are now very young. Service, wait times and general cleanliness in the pillar of rock used to be very good. Seems the standards have dropped recently.
