Style over substance, I’ve been twice now and both times I’ve been underwhelmed. The pastries are so stale, I went with a pastry chef the first time and he wouldn’t eat it as he said it tasted days old. The sandwiches are all cold (or at least the ones we ordered were) and I think you expect a meatball sandwich to be warm? My friend got the vegetarian and it was 90% lettuce. The coffees have always been nice but again mine was luke warm and my friend’s was actually cold so we asked for another. Both visits we’ve been one of two couples in the entire place and the staff are lovely but everything takes an excessive amount of time. Our last visit it took 25mins for our sandwiches and a further 10mins for our coffees once we had finished our sandwiches. It was 10.30 and we were the only table in the place at that point. Very disappointing as the decor is lovely and it has the potential...
Read moreA strange little place in the Doffcocker area. You'd never know that this was a bar from the frontage, very off-putting, looking more like a photocopier shop or takeaway. Despite that if you go through to the back there's a retro style bar with around 10 tables. There's a bar against one wall which holds 100s of vinyl LPs, which I assume is the music that's playing. The staff are young and friendly with table service. It was quiet when we called on a Thursday evening with just a couple of other people in, I think that it would be a good place on busy night. Its serms to serve a limited number of specialised drinks including; draff beer @ £5, cocktails @ £8 each, wine @ £8 per glass and some snacks between £3 & £7 including; olives, mixed bread, anchovies, cheese & honey & mixed meats. I'd definitely call back if I'm in...
Read moreBeen meaning to stop and try the sandwiches for a while and finally got chance on a relatively quiet sunny Sunday morning. A friendly welcome from the staff, efficient service, nice coffee and a small but good menu of delicious sandwiches. We had the one with spicy in the title which was stuffed with fillings and worth the tenner. A tiny bit more relish would've made it perfect but it was still excellent. My partner had the buffalo chicken and it was delightful... But messy! The ranch is a nice hit when you get to it.
Earls is a fantastic place which has obviously been very well thought out. The decor, ambience and general feel is superb and I really hope it continues to be a huge success as it is worth it. Simple stuff but very well done. Will be back next time I'm...
