This place was recommended to me, as I really fancied a roast, we had booked a table for 6.30 before we went, on arrival we didn't wait too long before being shown our table, however, the place was jam packed and it was difficult to move in between the vast amount of tables that were there. When we went to the bar to order, the lovely lady at the till was very accommodating and helped us with the children's menu as there were a few items unavailable, she was also very lovely when it came to sorting out our drinks and very kindly offered to bring them to the table for us and even when the kids drinks didn't come, we were seen very quickly and apologies were made, this is the reason the service gets 5 stars. Going to get or carvery is where the place loses stars, the guy carging up the meat didn't even look at our tickets and had to be told that we had the large roast with extra yorkies and pig in blanket, at which point he fished out our ticket, gave a huff and put them on our plate, now, bearing in mind this is 6.30 on a Sunday they had already run out of gammon, and from the carver's response, didn't look like it was going to be replaced at any point in the evening! There was a lot to choose from for the side dishes, loved that there were brussels on offer 👍 but when it came to eating, the cauliflower cheese and stuffing lacked in flavour (no, I don't have covid!!) and the vegetables were hard. Overall, the place was far too busy, the staff overstretched and the food a bit tasteless. This is a shame, as it was a recommendation and even the person who recommended it was disappointed with the evening. Maybe it was an off day,...
Read moreOrdered carvery for me with added yorkie and 2 pigs in blankets. curry for husband and 3 kids meals. Went straight to get the carvery and they only had beef left, no notice of this given when ordering so disappointed, asked why we weren't told when ordering or I'd have got something else she just said they should have said at the till but they didn't. Beef was tough, and dry. Pigs in blankets had hardly any bacon on just fat. Hardly any veg left then stood waiting for over 5 mins as the gravy was empty. Worst carvery I've had we've been here a few times and not usually terrible! Waited ages for the kids food. Husbands onion bhajis were burnt, he told a waitress who was lovely and said she would get some more. 10mins later they arrived even more burned and black, she was embarrassed and said sorry but they have to be cooked at a certain temp, so needless to say he didn't eat them. They had a kids eat for £1 on which we weren't made aware of, so when my kids were told they could have ice cream we went to get it then we're told it was £2.30 for a scoop of ice cream which defeats the object of the kids eating for £1?! The lady on the till was incredibly rude to my husband when he asked why we weren't informed of this. It used to be good here but that visit was so poor. Also food all over the floor in the family area.. Disappointing visit and waste of money!
Update - invited back and had a much better experience, well treated. Long queue for carvery but that can't be helped. Kids all happy! Food much better, given a cake away which was...
Read moreAbsolutely ruined Christmas ! Table wasn’t ready at the designated time, had us waiting 45mins in the rammed bar area in everybody’s way and 2 young children complaining they were hungry. Finally got us a table which they hadn’t even bothered to dress in the furthest corner away, nothing about the area screamed out Xmas it was just like a normal busy Sunday, we didn’t even have cutlery when the kids starters arrived. After complaining they finally came over with cutlery and the girl was handing it all to me one by one to set the table myself by which time the adult starters arrived and was dumped on the table next to us for us to have to get ourselves once we’d set the table. By the time the children’s main meals came (1.5hrs in ) the carvery queue was horrific and at least 20 mins wait time,we was expected to leave the kids eating alone whilst we queued for our own. This was totally unacceptable and not the way we wanted to spend Xmas, it certainly wasn’t £170 standards, I sat at the table crying waiting for the children to eat their mains whilst my other half demanded a refund to which they came with a gift voucher- I don’t think so,I’ll never step foot in a farmhouse inn again after this experience so we all got up and left, I took the children to the car whilst the other half finally got a full refund on his card ,thanks to pine tree Xmas was ruined and we had no Xmas dinner and a full refund. Anyone that books here for Xmas don’t say I didn’t warn you ! We booked last year and it was a fab experience this year it had gone...
