Absolutely love this gem in Egham! Very easy to access from the train station and the food is fantastic. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. The ambience inside is very warm and a clear celebration of Persian culture, from the art on the walls to the Iranian artists featured in the music.
Every time I’ve been to Polow, I’ve been well taken care of, and food has come out hot and fresh. This review will cover my most recent visit with my family. Our server was Milad who was fantastic at providing advice to make sure we had the best variety of Persian food. He was very attentive and answered all our questions with a smile.
We got four starters: Torshi Makhloot (assorted pickles), Nan and Paneer Sabzi, and two aubergine-based dips called Kashke Bademjan and Mirza Ghasemi. Everything was delicious, but I particularly loved the dips which had a lovely depth of flavour that complimented the warm naan bread.
For our mains, Milad suggested getting a mix of kebab and stews. We ordered the Chelo-Kebab-Momtaz which comes with one chicken kebab and one minced lamb. They were both delicious and flavoursome, but I particularly enjoyed the chicken which was exceptionally moist and tender. The stews we ordered were Khoresht Ghormeh Sabzi (a lamb stew) and Fesenjan (a chicken stew). These were excellent as well with a good mix of flavours. We got our mains with saffron rice which was a perfect accompaniment, acting as a great base for the stews.
We ordered two desserts: Faloodeh and Persian saffron ice cream. Milad explained that these were both traditional Persian desserts that would be hard to find at other restaurants, so we were really excited to try them. The Faloodeh was unlike anything I’ve ever tried. It is made with noodles mixed with a frozen element that reminded me of a lemon slush. Very yummy. Loved the Persian saffron ice cream as well. Thicker and creamier than your standard ice cream, it almost reminded me of a thick set custard. As a finisher, we had Persian tea with saffron sugar which was a perfect end to the meal.
Tl;dr – Polow is a fab restaurant with great food, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. Would...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Polow Restaurant in Egham, and it was an exceptional experience that I feel compelled to share. Specializing in Persian cuisine, Polow offers generous portions that are both satisfying and bursting with flavor. Each dish we sampled was prepared with fresh ingredients, and the taste truly reflected the rich and aromatic essence of Persian culinary traditions.
The variety on the menu was impressive, catering to diverse palates and ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy. The kebabs were succulent and perfectly seasoned, while the stews were hearty and comforting. The use of herbs and spices was masterful, enhancing the natural flavors of the ingredients without overpowering them.
One of the standout features of Polow is its atmosphere. The interior design is lovely, blending traditional Persian elements with a modern touch to create a warm and inviting ambiance. It’s a perfect setting for both casual dining and special occasions. The attention to detail in the décor contributes to an overall pleasant dining experience.
The staff at Polow were incredibly friendly and attentive. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. The service was prompt and efficient, with the staff making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive.
Additionally, the convenience of finding parking nearby was a significant plus. In an area where parking can often be a challenge, Polow's easy-to-access location makes the dining experience even more enjoyable.
In summary, Polow Restaurant in Egham is a gem that offers great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and exceptional service. Whether you are a fan of Persian cuisine or new to it, Polow provides a delightful culinary journey that is well worth experiencing. Read moreSharing our review on behalf of my wife who previously left a great review of this place.
We wrote an email before we wanted to leave a review as we know that small businesses often rely on reviews. Bur we didn't get a response.
My wife's aunt was visiting from Iran and last week was her last day was Sunday and we planned to come and eat at this restaurant again. We checked before leaving our house (we live in Richmond so about a 30 mins drive) to make sure it was open. Google had listed that it was closed on a Sunday, in fact that it wqs closed every day except Monday. We surely thought that must be wrong. So we called the 0800 number listed and a lady answered the phone. we asked if it was open and she said yes, we explained that google had it listed as closed. we asked if we would need to book, as we were coming as a group of six for around 5pm. She said no she wouldn’t think so but took our number down just in case.
So we travelled down, parked up only to approach the restaurant, realising it was closed. And clearly had signs up to say it was closed until 2nd September.
We felt really disappointed that the lady on the phone misinformed us. my wife was also embarrassed in front of her aunt. We travelled with two very young and wasted over an hour in travel time.
We would like to know why this lady misinformed us. we did email the contact address on the website but have had...
