I would love to say the name on the sign The Jolly Baker is how the staff are inside but I beg to differ. There is one young lady in there with a lovely smile but all the others are miserable and quite off putting. We as customers are buying your products, the least you can do is smile and act like you want to serve us or be there for that matter. I understand the area is quite well to do and in the mornings it is filled with workmen as they do start very early. So they are a different lot of clientele. However, it would be nice to walk into a Jolly Bakers. This review isn't all bad, I promise!!! Plus if you read further i do have something nice to say.
The coffee is tasty but could do with being hotter. It's luke warm and has to be drunk as soon as you leave. But what I love about this place is the rolls. £3.40-£4.80 sounds alot but the filling is what your paying for. I guess you could purchase a Budgens sandwich at £2-£3. But you get dry bread and not a lot of filling for the money.
The Jolly Bakers do a southern fried chicken roll. Massive bit of chicken, lots of salad, good helping of mayo. You can have the chicken warmed or not. Your choice. Worth the money. Or they have cheese and ham. Thick slice of cheese and a good helping of ham. And the rolls are big. Workmen size rolls and they actually fill you up! Try them people they...
Read moreThis used to be the best bakery in the area under the previous ownership.
This bakery used to offer something to cater everyone from breakfast items, sweet treats, breads, a vast array of hot foods, made to order panini’s, jacket potatoes, a list of specials each day and so much more. The food was genuinely delicious and the food now is anything but.
Since the Jolly Baker have taken over, they have lost pretty much everything that made Wentworth Patisserie great.
The food on offer now is nowhere near the standard it was before. I’ve tried 3 or 4 things from their new offerings and everything I’ve tried has been sub-par and the prices seemed to have increased by 50p for most items.
I would originally go into the bakery and find something I wanted instantly, no matter whether early in the morning or over a lunch time. Now there is such a small amount of choice, I find myself standing there staring for 5 minutes and when finally finding something, being disappointed by the poor quality and taste.
The new management really should have made incremental changes and found out what worked and what didn’t before overhauling 27 years of hard work by the previous owners.
Not somewhere I will be...
Read moreI want to give more stars for food, service and Atmosphere but it’s very server dependent - most of the people working here are really nice (especially the young guy) and make nice rolls except for one lady probably in her 30s, blonde hair in a pony tail with no manners whatsoever - my issue is I came to this Jolly Baker nearly every working day for the last year for a cheese and ham roll in a cheesy bap - with the correct ratio of filling the bap is really tasty - this might sound petty but I really look forward to this for lunch - for the last year I would normally get 2 slices of cheese and ham which in my opinion is the correct ratio for the size of the bap until one day recently the woman with the blonde hair and pony decided without telling me before hand (no purchase agreement) that standard is one slice of ham and one slice of cheese - which I think is the wrong ratio - too much bread and not enough filling and she was now going to charge 90p for another slice of cheese and another 90p for another slice of ham. The roll is already £4.10 the new price is now £5.90 which I think is too much - so real shame but I will never...
