Went for Sunday dinner today. Considering that there was still an hour left for Sunday service, we were informed that there was no roast beef and a couple of other items on the menu were unavailable. So ordered roast chicken, as the only other choice was pork, which I don't like. Waited almost 30 minutes, although the restaurant was empty. I asked what vegetables were accompanying the roast and was informed that it would be beans, carrots and spring greens. I said that i didn't want greens or the bread sauce and was told that the vegetables came separately. When I asked about the dinner, I was informed that the 'roast ' chicken was cooked to order ??? When it arrived it certainly wasn't roasted. The roast potatoes tasted like they had been deep fried and were so mushy inside like they had been microwaved first and the Yorkshire pudding was burnt around the top edges and soggy on the bottom. The vegetables including the greens, were on the plate, the bread sauce was in a separate bowl on the plate and the whole plate was smothered in gravy.
The plate looked like a soggy brown mush. Very disappointed as we've eaten here many times over the years and have always had a good meal. We were informed that the pub had changed ownership approx a year ago. Standards, in our opinion have dropped. Definitely not worth the increased...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn Tuesday my family and I visited this lovely little public house which was highly recommended to us we drove 20 miles to go there the recommendation was not wrong , we did not book a table for our meal but we were greeted my a love young lady she kindly found a table for us , we found out that she was the only member of staff on that evening and we thought that the service was going to be slow but we were totally wrong. The young lady worked so hard to accommodate all the customers in the public house. Serve the food clear the tables and make everyone so welcome in the public house. The food was outstanding the chef done so well getting the food out to the tables so quick and prompt we Where astonished by proficiency of the young lady and the chef youāve got to commend the two members of staff who are on duty that Knight for their quick polite and professional standards they kept for their customers as well as for their selves, I will highly recommend this public house for the atmosphere food and the standards which they give to the customers. It was well worth driving all that way to visit this lovely public house sometime in the near future, we will visit this public house again, I would like to say a very big thank you to the young lady and the chef for all their help and the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a disappointing Christmas meal with colleagues. I have lived locally to the Staines area for some years. The experience I recently had at the Bells is one of the most disappointing I have had at any of the Staines restaurants. Having dined at the Bells on a previous occasion, I had enthusiastically suggested to my co-workers that we host our work Christmas outing there. The festive atmosphere was lacking, with next to no decoration or music to create an atmosphere. Worse the tables were very sticky. When questions the staff informed us this was due to the antibacterial solution used on the tables. Unfortunately this left marks on my clothing, and a poor impression to all at the meal. Other pubs manage to clean their tables without this residue. Perhaps the Bells should invest in a better cleaning solution. The wine was disappointing for the price point, and the pub initially attempted to charge us for an extra bottle we had not ordered or received, until we queried them on the issue. Two stars given as the food was at least pleasant, if expensive for its quality relative to the local competition. The poor atmosphere, sticky tables and billing errors sadly mean I will be unlikely to return, and definitely will not recommend this...
