Despite quite good food, the overall experience wasn't great.
Starting by ordering, the lady who took our order, mumbled through her facemask, that did not cover her nose - only her mouth - pointless!
She used an aggressivly raised voice when patrons could not understand her.
The tray of drinks that's prepared at ordering was sort of noisily thrown together. The sound of crashing cups and saucers as well as the dispensed hit water made placing the order difficult. Neither party could easily understand each other.
My order consisted of a large strawberry milkshake, charged at £4.20 for a pint of milkshake, and it quite clearly wasn't 454ml as advertised!
The pot of tea for two, served with hot water, started fine, but by the time the added hot water had steeped, there was little strength, colour or flavour.
The fruit teacake it was good. Toasted right with the perfect amount of butter.
As for the two ham sandwiches, I'm not sure how it's possible to finish them so drastically different. One represented excellent value, well filled and of excellent taste. The second ham sandwich could be described as minimalistic at best. Two wafer thin slices of ham with copious amounts of butter.
Now, delivery of the food to the table is a totally different matter. The teacake did not remain on the plate as it was thrown at the table. The surly waitress proceeded to drop the plates from no less than 4 inches from the table top. This was not exclusive to us, but I witnessed repeatedly this depositing of plates to several surrounding tables. Each time the plate crashing into the surface.
This was definitely NOT service with a smile (unless it was behind the ill-fitting facemask)
Upon leaving the venue, I witnessed a male member of staff from the adjacent restaurant, the "Marina", walk over to the Cafe Renoir and turn around the Advertising boards wearing his blue food preparation gloves - disgusting. I can't help but think these may not be changed when he returned to the kitchen!
It is unlikely I will return or recommend either venue to...
Read moreCame here as 2 adults and 2 children (1 in a highchair) however no children's menu available. Why have high chairs and advertise as a family establishment when no children's menu is available? Beef roast dinner was advertised as fresh ingredients, it was microwaved with the cling film still stuck to the plate. The food was bland and definitely not fresh, Yorkshire pudding couldnt even be cut through after being covered in gravy. Ordered a small fish and chips rhat came with bread and butter, the one slice of bread came with butter only half spread in the centre not enough to cover edges so the bread was fairly dry and stale. Had to pay extra for curry sauce which came so lumpy you could taste the sauce powder in clumps. Also ordered a small portion of chicken bites and chips for one of the children, the chicken was so chewy he almost choked and had to spit it out and wouldn't eat the rest. The chips were also greasy. There were many elderly customers in who were given trays to carry their own hot drinks back to their tables which I think staff should have assisted with. No staff were seen other than when being served or meals brought out, no one checked to see if our meals were okay or came over to clear plates while we were...
Read moreAs a regular customer here it is good food and good value for money. However went in today at 3pm and was told where to sit by a rude member of staff which is a first. The girl wanted to close half of the cafe to clean even though they are not due to close until 4.45! There wasn't a suitable alternative place to sit so we left to go elsewhere. A family that came in just after us also left. We were all very annoyed at the attitude of the staff member. We have been back since this visit and it was much better, just as it always has been. The staff member in question has been very polite and friendly. A good place to visit for a...
