So I whent with a friend for some food and a catch up and was very dissapointed not only with the food but also the terrible service. I bought drinks upon arrival and sat down, it was steak night so I chose steak, on the menu it has all the stages of what you can order so I chose. When I went to the bar there was a barman running around serving everyone and a barmaid stood at the end of the bar chatting to someone, it took the barman to walk down and tell her I needed serving, not a good start. Then my steak, I ordered the rump as it was steak night, then I asked for seasonal veg, didn't have any, then I asked for mushrooms, didn't have any, not a good start for steak Thursday. My friend only wanted some chickin and a salad because of dietary issues but was charged for a meal off the menu where everything had to be removed except the chickin and salad, very expensive for what she received. When the food arrived my steak was full of fat and the salt and pepper that were brought to my table were empty so I had to ask for more. I needed more drinks and the barmaid had left the bar and was talking to a group of people next to my table, I walked past her and waited at the bar until she had finished her conversation, she then walked to the bar had another conversation with the same person as before and eventually got to me and asked for my order. If you are looking for reasonably priced good food and service then I would advise going to the witherspoons as I did two days previous.,better food, better service and I could get what I wanted from the menu and also cheaper. Well what can I say. We went in to watch the grand national and have a drink or two as my mates were up from Manchester to visit me. One of our party ordered some food (we had no idea what he ordered as it was several dishes for a set price). The food was delivered to our table and we thought we got good value for money. It turned out that we had been given our food and the food for the table next door to us. The chef/waiter then came over and said there had been a mistake. The other table obviously refused to take their food since it had been on our table, understandable. Then there was a problem, as a very rude gentleman - it transpired he was the landlord - came to the table and shouted at us citing that there was food on the table that hadn't been paid for. He then grabbed dishes, even ones that we had paid for and ceremoniously pulled them away and placed them on top of each other and took them away. There was no talking to us just treating us as though we were thieves. I hate waste and I would have paid for the mistake had he spoken or even attempted to listen to me. However things got heated and he told us to finish our drinks and leave. This pub can obviously thrive without my money as I would have spent at least another £100 in there. I can't fault the other staff or the food that came out, but the rudeness of the landlord was unacceptable being in the privileged position that he occupies. What a shame and I'll inform the brewery of this terrible experience as this could be a great place to visit, however there are plenty of alternatives in this village that won't ruin your day just because they have...

Work lunch on a budget - originally chose this place because the website stated it was bogof on the burgers. When ordering, the girl at the bar bluntly said no they're not, so we chose something else as they were too expensive to get one each at full price. It was very quiet, a few men having a pint and 2 ladies already eating, but we waited 40 minutes for our food, which we were not informed about nor did there appear to be a reason for it. When the food eventually arrived, it was edible but not great, especially considering you can get a bigger, better quality meal for less money at Wetherspoon round the corner. At the end of the meal, we told the waitress it was not great and she looked completely indifferent and just said oh right, sorry. Went to the toilets before we left and they were disgusting.
