My first time visiting this place. Would not visit again due to lacklustre taste of food.
Decent enough vibes for a curry house with the usual desi music blaring which one would expect from a joint like this. The staff were courteous and the starters did not take too long to arrive. However there was a longish wait for the mains to arrive even though we had ordered only one mains. Maybe they were short staffed? It didn't seem really busy though when we visited at around 3:30 pm for lunch on a Saturday.
Food wise I was left massively underwhelmed, especially considering the good Google reviews they had and the stickers on the the door which displayed that they were winners at the Bradford food awards recently. I would normally take this to be accurate given the fact that Bradford is supposed to be the "Curry Capital" of the UK and this was infact a curry house.
For starters, we ordered the International House Mix, which was in essence a meat platter. This was mostly decent at best. The lamb seekh kebab felt like store bought frozen stuff rather than made in house. The chicken boti kebab and the fish kebab were well cooked and succulent however the lamb chops were a bit too dry. The waiter also did not know what specific meat in the "meat samosa" contained; he was unable to find out what meat was even after enquiring with the kitchen! I was told that the meat samosa contained "meat" without the waiter being able to specify whether this was lamb, beef, chicken or any other type of meat. I found this to be very disturbing especially if someone were to have any allergies or any other dietary restrictions. They also did not ask about if we had any allergies before taking our order.
Moving on to the mains, the rice was well cooked and garlic and coriander naan was spot on. However the chef literally murdered the "Butter chicken"!
Butter chicken is primarily a tomato based gravy/sauce but in the serving that we were offered this did not seem to be the case at all; there was very little to no tomato in it at all. This was not butter chicken at all. Period. Even if I overlook everything else, it was quite hard to overlook this, as this was the reason I visited the restaurant - to have a good butter chicken dish. I strongly feel that the chef needs to learn what a butter chicken recipe really means and not served some random stuff. This was some sort of generic sauce that did not have any flavour of the dish that was being sold and is a staple at any good restaurant.
Considering the £33 pound bill for two people, I think I overpaid by about 13 pounds. The portion sizes were good and we could not finish everything. However part of the reason was because the flavours (or the lack of) that we expected were quite off the mark.
The only redeeming factor was that the staff were quite welcoming and courteous but if given a choice I would not visit again for the food itself. I was truly disappointed.
The chef could do with a trimmed menu cooking true to the recipes on the menu rather than offering hundreds of items (hyperbole!) with generic, bland and misleading names. Also the chef/proprietors could do with a visit to Urban Choola at Sheffield to try the butter chicken, where it is cooked true to the original recipe and try to...
Read moreTucked away at the end of a terrace cul de sac, this place is almost disguised as somebody's house! This added mystery and anticipation for me... Or perhaps I just approached from the rear! Wid (Whiskey India Delta, as he introduced himself as) was a wonderful host alongside his vivacious and friendly team, who gave us a warm welcome and continued to apply harmonious hospitality during our brief lunchtime tenure. I chose a litmus dish to test their metal - Lamb Madras with three chapattis. It was stunning! A vibrant and colourful sauce flecked with fresh chilli and coriander, beautifully tender and succulent meat and a perfect Madras heat, without trace of that artificial spice level often experienced elsewhere! I just couldn't stop! This outrageously addictive flavour and spice balance, which saw me eating beyond my reasonable capacity, was in serious danger of leaving me in a sleepy slumber of culinary satisfaction for a theatre show in which I did not want to fall asleep! In our party were two vegetarians (one a vegan in fact) who were equally blown away as I was! The Karahai vegetable Pathia was rich and abundant with a silky sauce and the evident lemon rind garnishing the depths of the dish proving without bragging that these flavours are real. I've never seen my good friend make it through a full dish without harnessing a doggy bag at the end before, but his Paneer Palak was sensational! And he finished every last bowl scraping which surprised him as much as it did us! His initial graphic design layman frustration of having to navigate a menu with white text on black, coupled with a font he was horrified by, was obliterated by the spice balance sorcery married perfectly by the opulent mushroom pilau, most of which he cheekily pilfered from his faithful lady who had a much better handle on what to order! My faithful and particular wife, whose constructive criticism is always 'bob on' in fundamental, core foundations, often finding you kicking yourself with pious reflection, said it was the best Peshawari naan she's ever had, "No question!' Overall it was a splendid experience which I would highly recommend to any curry lover! Well worth a trip over...
Read moreI went for a family meal to celebrate and it was a terrible mistake. To start with, we had booked a table ahead of time because there were about 25 of us attending; the table was booked for 7pm. But when we arrived the table was not ready and when it was there were less than 20 seats. So we were asked to wait for the people at the table next to ours to finish eating so that the remainder of the family could sit down. They did sit offer us another table sat away from our family members, which defeated the objective of a family meal. After finally getting everyone seated, we began ordering our food, the waiter took half the table's order and then disappear was and came back after 10 minutes to take the rest. We were served with complementary poop dons and pickle trays, which I can only assume was to make up for the poor service we had received thus far. When our food finally arrived, my cousin and nephew (4 y/o) got up to use the toilets and my nephew fell down the stairs followed by my cousin because the floors were slippery. My nephew was bleeding and my cousin hurt her hip. At this point they just took them to the toilets to try clean them up, no one actually carried out any first aid. They then cleaned the stairs after the incident, and said it was because of the blood, I had seen the stairs and there were two drops of stairs on the bottom of the stairs and they cleaned every single step. After this there was no accountability and there was no one really helping. After insisting on the them bringing out their accident book, they finally did and it was filled out. We decided to leave, having barely eaten as this all occurred as the food arrived. We still asked for the bill so we could leave, they insisted that we didn't have to pay. But this was only after about 20 minutes of back and forth trying to get someone to do something about the hazard and actually help.
In addition to all of this the restaurant was rammed, the exits were blocked by people and there was barely any space to...
