It was my birthday and I wanted to go to McDonald's, of all places. Just something small and light. We'd gone to bristol for a few days and my family had other ideas, and we somehow ended up at Lona. In Manchester, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. This was another level altogether. Their starters were fresh and tasty. The hummus and bread was excellent and the salads were fresh and vibrant. For mains we got a few burgers and a large platter. The lamb chops were juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. The chicken was cooked excellently and had a beautiful flavour. The rice, naans and chips were all impeccable. The kebabs were nice, not too hot but enough flavour to keep me wanting more. The smoothies were also really good, there is a massive selection of juices, shakes and smoothies and all of them we tried were beautiful. My family told the staff it was my birthday, so instead of having a quiet meal like I wanted, the staff played some music and brought a slice of cake over with sparklers and indoor fireworks and all sat around applauding me being one year closer to death. I actually really enjoyed it and it had a lovely personal touch. The cake was moist, chocolatey, light and dense simultaneously. It was absolutely beautiful. The ambiance, decor, service, speed and quality of food were faultless. I am very happy we came and if we go to Bristol again, we will most definitely come again.

I’ve been coming to Lona Bristol for the past eight years with my family, but after this last experience, I won’t be returning. The service has completely changed for the worse. First, they now ask for payment before you even receive your food, treating every customer as if they might run away without paying. Just because one person did that, it’s unfair to assume everyone else will do the same. It creates a terrible dining experience, making customers feel untrusted and unwelcome. Then comes the waiting time—over 40 minutes for food, which is unacceptable. And when it finally arrived, the quality was shocking. The meat was undercooked, the lamb chops were raw, and the portion sizes have drastically reduced. The chicken used to be thick and well-cooked, but now it’s sliced so thin that it barely feels like a proper meal. On top of that, they’ve stopped serving fries with Round 4, which used to be included. Now, you have to order them separately, which makes no sense. It’s just another way to cut corners and charge more while giving less. Overall, everything has changed—the food quality, the taste, the service—all for the worse. If I wasn’t with my family, I would have walked out. But that’s it for me. After eight years, I won’t be coming back. I do not recommend this place anymore. If they keep running it like this, they won’t last long.

The atmosphere at Lona Restaurant is definitely appealing and beautiful, and I can see why it's popular for special occasions. While dining, we noticed more than five tables celebrating as the music will come up to sound for this. The music and clapping that accompanied these celebrations created a lively and festive vibe. However, the food was a bit disappointing. I had the chicken kofte and chicken wings, but unfortunately, the lemon flavor was overpowering, and the chicken wasn't as juicy as I expected. My husband ordered the Mixed Grill Three – he loved the lamb cutlets, but found the other items (lamb areyes, spicy lamb kofte, and wings) underwhelming. It was also surprising that payment was required immediately after ordering. On a brighter note, my sons enjoyed their kofte kebabs, and the drinks were refreshing. I had the "Clear Skin," a mix of watermelon, pineapple, and mango, which was quite nice. The kids had orange and strawberry drinks, which they enjoyed as well. Overall, while the ambiance was fun and vibrant, the food didn't quite live up to expectations. If you're looking for a place with a lively atmosphere for celebrations, Lona Grill House fits the bill, but the food may not impress everyone.

Awful experience. Terrible food. Went there for a friend’s birthday. We were told after ordering we would need to pay the bill immediately as it was a “new policy”. We expressed we were not happy about that as it would disrupt the dining experience and we hadn’t even eaten yet however the manager did not care. We then asked to remove the service charge considering and told we were not allowed to. Eventually, we paid the bill in full. When our food arrived I noticed the prawns I ordered had not been cleaned or deveined (which is literally a health violation). So I sat there trying to clean poop out of my prawns. See images for reference. Typically, when unhappy with a meal, it would just be removed from the bill however I had already been forced to pay! They offered to cook me something else so I ordered a veggie burger which was so dry, I took one bite and was just disgusted by the whole dining experience. Avoid this place at all costs. The only save and grace was Helen.

I was really excited to give this place a go especially reading all the positive reviews and felt reassured seeing halal clearly written on their website and in the restaurant, however after having their mains we definitely wouldn’t order again. I’ll start with the positives... They have a one way system in place and ask people to wait outside to keep it a safe environment for staff and customers. We ordered once we reached and were told it’ll be 15-20 mins. The portion sizes are generous and we really enjoyed the drinks we ordered (1 orange and carrot & 1 mango, orange and banana). We also thought the spicy hummus and flatbread were delicious. Sadly, everything else we ordered was disappointing. The Bateta Hara was undercooked and quite bland. As for the Mixed Grill One— it definitely did not live up to expectations. The chicken lacked flavor and the meat was tough and had a smell to it. The shish taouk shawarma was equally flavorless. We would not recommend.
