I recently visited Tomato & Basil Pizzeria and had a mixed experience that’s worth sharing for anyone considering a meal there. To start, I ordered the jalapeño cheese balls, which were unfortunately disappointing. They arrived cold in the middle and had that unmistakable texture and taste of something microwaved from frozen. Definitely not fresh, which was a letdown given they sounded like a great appetizer on the menu. For the main, I had a cheese base pizza topped with goat cheese, halloumi cheese, onions, and peppers. The pizza itself was cooked well with a nicely baked crust and a good balance of toppings. However, it could have really benefited from more cheese on the base, which felt a bit sparse and slightly dry in some bites. The cutlery was another low point as mine was noticeably dirty, which really detracted from the dining experience. On the positive side, they did serve nicely chilled water, which was a pleasant and refreshing touch. The ambience of the restaurant was one of its stronger points. It is well laid out with a thoughtful design and good background music that made for a relaxing atmosphere. Tomato & Basil isn’t a bad place to stop by for a quick pizza, especially if you’re nearby and want a casual bite at a decent price. The interior is welcoming and the vibe is enjoyable. That said, there are definitely better pizza spots along Gloucester Road when it comes to both quality and consistency. The potential is there, but attention to detail, particularly with food freshness, presentation, and cleanliness, would go a long way in improving the overall experience. A decent option, but not one I’d rush back to, but wouldn't rule out not going again.

We called ahead to ask if we could still book, despite it only being an hour until they closed. But they accommodated our group of three. The service was impeccable, they were all friendly and polite. The glasses were crystal clear and the beer was ice cold (what more could you want?). The pizza was incredible, definitely authentic Italian pizza, I've eaten pizza all over Italy and this easily ranks among the best of them. Deliciously flavourful, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The atmosphere was nice, the way they have decorated, along with the music really makes you feel like you're abroad. The prices were extremely good as well, my pizza was one of the most expensive on the menu at only £14 (Dominos charge £24 for a pizza of the same size). 10/10 will absolutely be back.

Pizza with good dough and good qualitt of ingredients but at the same time nothing with "wow" effect. Comparing with other pizzerias in Bristol with a sourdough it will be somewhere in the middle of the quality. Based on this I could give 4/5 but I was shocked how small can be pizza which cost me £14.5. The box is 12 inches but pizza is much smaller (specially from one of the side) and the crust is taking a lot of the space. I ate many different pizzas but this I think is the smallest 12 inches pizzas which I ever experienced in Bristol and it hit me just when I've opened the box.

Its not often that get around this part of Gloucester Road, even though we live 8 mins walk away, but on this occasion, after just donating a bike to the local recycle scheme across the road, we decided to pop in for a quick pizza on the way home.

Being a Wednesday night, the place was empty, which normally alarming bells would ring, but we had no need to worry, the staff were all very friendly, the place looked and felt very clean and tidy and most of all, the food was delivered to our table quickly, piping hot and delicious.

I have stated 5 stars for atmosphere, and I'm sure that when the place has more people in, then I can see it being a really positive place to be, however as stated, we were the only customers, FiFA football on the large screen and the sound of ambulances rushing by with their sirens blaring, its not a quite romantic place to visit, but thats the price for being on a main road in the middle of a city.

We look forward to...

Ordered from these guys for the 2nd day in a row after enjoying the chicken caesar salad and thick skin on fries. Decided to go with them again but the skin on fries did not arrive. Phoned up Tomato & Basil and a really nice lady explained that it was nothing to do with them as the order was placed via deliveroo. As this one star review reveals it is unfortunately everything to do with them and they should have tried to find a way to resolve it. Deliveroo now want to see a receipt provided by Tomato and basil pizzeria as a way of proving my case. Seems ridiculous as I am only claiming for a portion of chips. There was no receipt provided by Tomato & Basil so this will also make it tricky for me as Deliverooo require this. Now I have a salad but with no chips to go with it and I am at a loss...
