I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mowgli Street Food, and let me just say that this restaurant has easily set a new benchmark for me when it comes to style, atmosphere, and overall experience. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was utterly impressed by the ambience. The décor is stunning, an impeccable mix of modern sophistication and rustic charm. The lighting is soft and warm, setting the perfect mood for an evening of indulgence. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into crafting a space that feels both intimate and lively. The restaurant is also immaculately clean. From the polished tables and gleaming cutlery to the spotless toilets, every corner of Mowgli exudes cleanliness and care. I always say that you can tell a lot about a restaurant by its toilets, and Mowgli’s were pristine. This level of attention to hygiene and detail gave me confidence in the quality of the food and the environment The staff at Mowgli were nothing short of amazing. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm, they made me feel welcome and looked after throughout my visit. I never felt rushed, and every question I had about the menu was answered with enthusiasm and knowledge. It’s clear that the team takes pride in delivering top-notch service, and they succeeded in every way. Now, let’s get to the star of the show—the food. I ordered a variety of dishes to truly explore the menu, and while there was one slight hiccup with the roti bread, the rest of the meal was absolutely spectacular. Here’s a detailed breakdown of everything I tried Yogurt Chat Bombs: were a perfect starter, bursting with flavour and texture, crispy shells filled with tangy, creamy goodness. Mowgli House Chicken: was tender and juicy with a rich, warming spice blend. Mowgli House Lamb: was equally flavorful, melting in the mouth with earthy, aromatic spices. Mowgli Basmati Rice: was light, fluffy, and soaked up the flavours beautifully. Went very well with the chicken and lamb. The only slight letdown was the Roti Bread, which I found a bit dry and powdery compared to everything else. However, this was a minor hiccup in an otherwise flawless meal. Mowgli Chocolate Brownie: This was a showstopper. It was gooey, rich, and decadently satisfying. The brownie just melted in my mouth, and the ice cream was so nice and creamy. It was a beautiful combination. Mowgli Street Food is an absolute gem. From the stunning atmosphere and impeccable cleanliness to the friendly service and incredible food, this restaurant delivers on every level. Yes, the roti breads weren’t my favourite, but that’s a very minor blemish in an otherwise flawless dining experience. The yoghurt chat bombs, Mowgli House Chicken, and Mowgli Chocolate Brownie alone are worth the visit, and the rest of the menu only adds to the excitement. This is not just a meal—it’s an experience, and it’s one I can’t wait to repeat. Mowgli Street Food gets a full 5 stars from me, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a dining experience that’s as delicious as it is memorable.

So myself and my wife went last night to try the new Mowgli in Bristol. First impression of the interior WOW, absolutely stunning, really nice decor, the entire time I was inside I was looking around the whole room continuously. Decor 11/10. For the food, we weren’t impressed, we did mention this to our server Anish but he stated it’s the first day for a few of the kitchen staff so there is a little hiccups. Not great cause there was any hiccups when I paid the 10% service charge. We ordered the following: Yogurt Chat Bombs: now I don’t eat chick peas so I gave this one a miss but the mrs didn’t enjoy it, said there was too much yogurt in there which took away all the flavour, maybe have little jars to pour your own yogurt and tamarind sauce? 3/10 Gunpowder chicken: this was ok, but it came out right at the end when the meal had finished, I did try to get the waiters attention to ask where it was as we wanted it as a starter. 6/10 Agra Chicken ginger: nothing ginger about it and there wasn’t any spinach as mentioned in the description. This lacked flavour which is a shame as the description made it seem to be mouth watering. 2/10 House lamb curry: Again not much flavour, was expecting the lamb to be tender but it was rather chewy in a watery curry sauce, 3/10. Picnic potato curry: this was super tangy, it reminded me of a Bengali curry we have called tomato tenga but just a few potato’s added. 5.5/10. Temple dhal: now I love dhal and will order it anywhere and everywhere and this was really good, nice depth of flavour and correct amount of seasoning. 10/10. Mowgli Basmati rice: the rice looked cooked, but wasn’t cooked, it was still a little raw and this destroyed the meal, did try to get the waiters attention but all the staff were running around. Uncooked rice isn’t really nice if I’m honest. 1/10 Mango lassi: would have liked a more mango flavour, felt there was too much yogurt which over powered the mango taste and smell. 4/10. Overall the food was a major let down, especially for a restaurant that’s so beautiful. We did want to try the gulab Jamoon and brownies but was scared to order just in case the quality wasn’t there again. I feel like the owner needs to spend a few days with the chefs really ensuring they grasp perfecting the dishes, ensuring they are seasoning the curries, cooking the rice properly even. For a new establishment there will be a few downs but this was a bit too much downs for my liking. I will definitely come back to try again but not for another 6/8 months at least. Can Nisha please come check the cooking standards cause this is a stunning restaurant, which deserves 10/10. This restaurant has a good menu, it’s not the old bog standard Bangladeshi/Indian menu of Korma, Masalla, Rogan Josh. It’s got great potential but it’s lacking in flavour. Also maybe train the front of house not to say it’s the chefs first day he’s still learning. Overall a 3.5/10 for me.

For me, Mowgli is the epitome of a new wave of restaurants; ones that don't prioritse quality of food or the restaurant experience but instead favour purely the aesthetics, the image of eating at Mowgli. A restaurant for Instagram. Vapid. To start things off postitvely, the restaurant did look absolutely beautiful. Fairy lights everywhere seemed to give the place an ethereal golden glow and the interior was comprised mostly of wood and rope giving a natural, eco-friendly aestetic. Onto the menu which was a confusing mess. It had titles that were confusing and made it harder to order such as 'The Hindu Kitchen' which is just vegan and vegetarian food but I suppose that wasn't 'personal' and 'authentic' enough (a reoccurring theme). Similarly sections for street meat and chat(?) which I'm not sure why they had to be separated nor of the appeal of street food in a sit down restaurant. The descriptions of the food tried to convince me that these were deeply personal dishes that somehow still captured the magic of a homecooked meal whilst being standardised and produced by strangers all up the country. At one point the menu told me I had to try Gulab Jamun desert 'once in my lifetime' so I bought it and it was just fine, I definitely could've gone a lifetime without missing it. I also found it strange how the menu writer kept referring to their family like I knew them but it only made me feel the restaurant was less authentic due to this obvious marketing gimmick. Service was fine although the staff did look somewhat miserable but delivered food and drinks in a normal fashion. Me and my girlfriend shared the supergreen and agra ginger curries accompanied by some basmati rice and roti. The food itself tasted fine but doesn't compare to other nearby Indian restaurants. I'm not sure if other reviewers all had colds or were getting food from somewhere else because what I ate ranged from bland to barely good. Overall my experience was like having a beautifully decorated cake that, when I took a slice, tasted dry with thick fondant and low quality jam. I was let down. I was being sold on authenticity and homliness but what I received was mediocre food packaged up with nice sounding words from a corporate brainstorm. TLDR; looks nice but don't go if you actually enjoy the restaurant experience

We booked in Friday 11th at 6:30, it wasn’t very busy but we weren’t massively impressed. The hostess was very cold and didn’t feel welcoming, we gave our name and she grabbed 4 menus, we had to correct her that we were 2 people. When my fiancé asked not to go on the swings if possible as she finds them uncomfortable, the hostess huffed rather loudly but sat us elsewhere (three tables jammed together in a small space with us in the middle, leading to a less than intimate dining experience) Our server was lovely and absolutely welcoming but clearly quite new, we ordered two cocktails and then chat bombs, lamb chops, treacle fries, two curries and a roti. We asked for all of this to not have the fresh coriander garnish as my fiancé isn’t a fan of fresh coriander. When the chat bombs came over (still not drinks) they had coriander, we weren’t asked if we had tried them before or given an explanation on how best to eat them, the lady running the food simply popped them on the table, told us what they were and made to leave. We had to flag her down and explain they weren’t correct at which point she seemed skeptical and asked “really?”, at which point our server let her know that, yes, these aren’t correct and they took them away after a moment or so of discussion. When our chat bombs came out the second time with no coriander we were happy but still no drinks, looking over to the bar we noticed they were on a tray on top but no being brought to our table. Once we finished our chat bombs they finally were brought over. The rest of our food arrived all together and was incredibly disappointing, the lamb chops were 90% fat and both the fries included and our treacle fries were still hard and crunchy on the inside. The curries were incredibly watery and tasteless and the roti had so much ghee it was running down our hands and left a puddle on the plate which felt a bit excessive and greasy. overall we didn’t touch the curries, had a single roti between us, ate what little meat was on the chops and a handful of fries. When clearing our essentially full plates the server didn’t ask if our food was okay or inquire as to why we didn’t finish any of the food, which was disappointing but we do believe he was fairly new. After this it seemed to get a little busier as we were never given sweet menus, we tried to flag down anyone to get a drink but struggled as all of the servers were busy (understandable) however the managers were all stood at the host stand chatting, there were drinks waiting on the bar and tables looking around for help the same as us but the managers didn’t move from their conversations even at the detriment of service.

i could go on and on about how the rest of our visit went, unfortunately both myself and my partner work in different parts of hospitality and so we can usually recognise a bad night from bad form overall. We’re lucky it’s not our first visit to mowgli as we live in cheltenham and love to visit ours but this was a massive let down for the standards we usually get from our local. overall just a really disappointing experience and what feels like a total waste of time and money. we left hungry and...
