I used to LOOOOVE tincan, it was my favourite coffee shop on Gloucester road. There's clearly been a lot of changes to staff and as a result the last l 10+ trips I've made the coffee was pretty terrible. On par with Costa, but less gimmicky.
You might have ordered a latte or a flat white but you're always getting a coffee as foamy as a cappuccino.
The service has also dipped quite dramatically I hate to say. It's not that anyone is actively rude per say, but I'm rarely met with even a hint of a smile anymore. I'd be the last person to want someone to force a smile on their face if they don't feel like it, but with no exaggeration I feel like I've been met by a cold front every last visit I've had making me feel like I'm somehow disrupting them by asking for a coffee. Barely acknowledging me and as soon as I sit down starts chatting like a waterfall with their colleagues.
Not that long ago I'd go and they'd remember my order (I'm always so impressed by this, my memory is awful) and greeted with a lot of warmth - hi how are you doing, any plans for the day etc. basic but nice small talk. And the coffee was to die for. Now to be clear, I don't recognise half the people there anymore so I don't blame them for not knowing my order, but just saying hi how are you and being generally friendly isn't much to ask for I feel.
I would work from home and a highlight in my day was having my break and walk into tincan for a coffee. I still go there from time to time, I keep foolishly hoping they've had coffee training or maybe hired someone who's excellent at making coffees, but I always leave disappointed.
I've held off leaving this review as I used to love this place so much and it's hard to accept that their quality has dipped so much, but I have given it a lot of time and chances and I need to accept that it's not going to be as good as it used to be without someone knowledgable taking the reigns and whipping it...
Read moreTincan looks great and has a nice atmosphere. What lets it down are its staff, you are an inconvinience to them.
I enquired about the "meat toastie", asking what meat it has in it, as I dont eat beef. Instead of helpfully mentioning that it is actually a ham and cheese toasty, the women behind the counter pointed at a sign behind here and said nothing. Glaring at me until after a few puzzled seconds looking, I mentioned there wasn't a "meat toastie" where she had pointed. She then walked to it and pointed at the croque monsieur. "This has ham in it".
Just say ham next time and mention that the "meat toastie" is a croque monsieur... it would have saved us both a lot of time and would have been the kinder thing to do.
The toastie was crap... wayyyyy too much dijon mustard, and i...
Read moreI very rarely leave a low review but stepping into the shoes of coffee number 1 is no mean feat. Today I waited 20 minutes for a luke warm latte to be brought to our table after ordering a cappuccino. No real apology for the delay in bringing them and I even had to chase them up. I returned the poor first effort greeted with an eye roll and a few minutes later was brought a slightly foamier latte trying to be passed as a cappuccino. This time the coffee tasted burnt and weak. A real shame as they are clearly using a good bean. My wife’s coffee was skinny decaff cappuccino and even this tasted better. The inside is more American diner style now and the seating arrangement is much improved from coffee number 1. I’ll try it again and update this review if the coffee and...
