After meaning to try Taka Taka for a very long time we finally had the opportunity, we wish we didn't bother.
When I went to order pork gyros from the grill I was told that they did not have ANYTHING available from the grill and wrap menu and the server told us they only had a few things available, pointing at a piece of paper with a few options scrawled on it. The options were all written as their traditional Greek names so I asked what the server recommended instead of a pork wrap. They gave the magic box as a good alternative and I got a side of chips in case it was small.
The name magic box paints a pretty bold picture in my mind so I was keen to see exactly what was so magic about it.
Whilst waiting for my order I noticed that other around us were collecting wraps and grilled items, fresh from the spit. I went and asked if they were getting the last portions of if there was in fact still wraps and grilled items. It turns out the server told us there was none left as there was a 10 minute wait and she took it upon herself to assume we didn't have time to wait for our order and would rather eat something completely different if it arrived 30 seconds sooner.
The magic box turned out to be a small plastic container of stale shredded salad topped with 3 small, bland and dry lumps of "lamb", there was a distinct lack of magic. The chips were equally mediocre; soggy and cold covered in dried mixed herbs, they had definitely been sat for a long while before we received them.
All in all, very disappointing. I'm sure some things on there menu live up to the hype but if the servers won't let you have them,...
Read moreI don't usually write bad reviews, or reviews in general, but this time I think it might be helpful. I sometimes come to eat at your restaurant and the staff is usually not really polite, but I always let go. But on Friday at 5pm roughly, I passed in front of your restaurant and I thought to buy something to take out. I immediately saw the sign to wait at the door for a staff member to come to take the order and so I waited in front of the door. There were 3/4 people inside, they had a quick eye contact with me and then they just disappeared all at the back. I thought they must have been busy so I just waited more, but after 5 minutes no one was showing up, not even just to say to me that I had to wait a long time, or couldn't serve me or anything. They just vanished and because I was tired of waiting (no queue, no info, nothing), I just went to buy food somewhere else. It's a shame because I never had any issue with your shop in Broad quay and the staff there have always been polite and helpful, but when I come at this restaurant or the staff is rude, or they disappear. I feel sorry for the bad review, but there's always something wrong and it's a shame because the food is...
Read moreWent to Taka Taka and the chicken they use is 100% halal, which is great, and they make sure it’s kept completely separate from any non-halal meat during preparation and cooking. That’s something I really appreciate.
I got the gyros pitta wrap with chicken and chips inside, and honestly, it was delicious. The chicken was juicy, full of flavour, and cooked perfectly. You could tell it was well-marinated, and it had that nice grilled taste with slightly crispy edges but still really tender.
The chips in the wrap were a great touch. They were soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and soaked up all the sauces and chicken flavour without going soggy. It gave the wrap a really satisfying bite.
The pitta bread was soft, warm, and fresh. It held everything together really well without tearing or falling apart, and it had that nice chewy texture you want from a proper Greek-style pitta.
Overall, I was really impressed with the food. Tasty, filling, and everything just worked together perfectly. Would definitely go back and order the same...
