The Great British Takeaway — Restaurant in Bristol

This is my local chip shop, recently it appears to have new owners and it’s now terrible.

I came in the shop 15 mins before they shut for the afternoon and I wanted a cod lion the man behind the till clearly couldn’t be bothered to cook it , as he said he’s closing in 15 mins. So he said he has sausages ready so I decided to get it instead. I got home and starting to eat the chips also shared some with my daughter. I started to eat the battered sausage. And it wasn’t cooked properly the batter was wet inside and the sausage was pink. I took a picture and binned it.

I went back when they reopened showed the man who served me the picture and he said “ he cooks it like that because it gets dry” it didn’t make any sense because it was raw and the batter was wet. The man serving was pleasant and polite, and the premises clean and well-equipped. Sadly the cooking skills left much to be desired. The chip fat was cheap and clearly not hot enough to fry properly. The chips came out greasy, pale and stodgy. Meanwhile the saveloy I ordered was unceremoniously dunked in a dish of cloudy water kept warm in the heated cabinet, in which was another, very old-looking sausage that had clearly been soaking in there for hours. My saveloy was stone cold by the time I got home (two streets away) and clearly had not been heated to an internal temperature that was safe to eat. I tried to salvage my meal by giving it a good blast in the air fryer, but it couldn't be saved. It makes me very sad because this used to be an award-winning chippy but now it seems to be under new management every few months, and none of the staff know...

Went here for the first time in a while to find it has changed hands; What used to be a great chip shop is now one I won't be using again until reviews improve, a lot.

After I'd ordered I went to pay on card then saw the "cash only" sign, and was told it was cash only. I said I'll need to cancel my order then as would need to go home and drive to a cash point in which case I may as well go to another chip shop, then a card machine appeared - I felt this was quite poor service, they could just have charged me more to cover the transaction fee rather than mess around.

My large cod was OK but the batter was over cooked and greasy, the regular cod we had was grey and went straight in the bin as had a very bad taste where I assume it was on the cusp of being entirely off. The chips were OK, but also on the over...
