My visit to the Gloucester Old Spot pub for a Sunday roast was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a delightful meal.
The roast dinner itself was a masterpiece. The meat was tender and succulent, and the selection of vegetables accompanying it were not only flavorsome but also cooked to perfection. The real star of the meal, though, was the broccoli and cauliflower cheese – it was a taste sensation that I won't soon forget. The perfect combination of creamy cheese and perfectly cooked vegetables made it an absolute standout.
And then there was dessert. The dark chocolate and biscoff brownie was a revelation. Rich, indulgent, and expertly crafted, it easily ranks as one of the best desserts I've had all year. Every bite was a symphony of flavors that left me craving for more.
I must commend the staff, particularly Ellie, who was our waitress. She was an absolute credit to the team, providing friendly and attentive service that made our dining experience truly special. Amy also contributed to the wonderful atmosphere and ensured that every aspect of our meal was perfect.
The overall ambience of the Gloucester Old Spot pub was delightful. The cozy and inviting surroundings added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal. It's the kind of place where you can relax, savor your food, and have great conversations with friends or family.
In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this establishment for their Sunday roast, and I'm already looking forward to returning to sample more of the culinary delights on their menu. This dining experience was nothing short of exceptional, and I can't speak highly enough about it. It's a gem that deserves to be discovered and savored by all food...
Read moreToday I ordered a Fish Finger sandwich and unfortunately it was very disappointing.
It came in a large door step of white bread (as described on the menu) so that wasn't a surprise but there was far more bread than the filling warranted. Actually there was far more Lettuce than anything else. It filled the plate but really didn't contribute anything to the overall experience.
The idea of a home made fish fingers has a certain appeal but when i order a 'fish finger buttie' i really want fish fingers in breadcrumbs, preferably from a packet, with a picture of a sea captain on the front.
What I got were two small slices of fish dipped in batter and fried but they were very small and the ones i had were full of bones, some thing i wasn't expecting.
I did eat them but i left far more food than I ate which is a shame as my experiences here in the past have been good.
My fellow diners fared much better.
The Posh Sausage Sandwich was full of sausage which had enough substance and flavour to counter the large slices of bread.
The Ham Egg and Chips looked good though the fried egg had a skirt on it (burnt white) which some might not like and the egg was kind of flopped on top, which looked like an afterthought, though I'm assured it tasted fine. But why all that Lettuce?
There wasn't much Ham either.
Sadly the Fish Finger sandwich was a let down and at these prices I wouldn't expect to be...
Read moreSimilar experience to some of the other negative reviews above. I have nothing against the pub; its clean, well decorated and the food is above average for the area. My issue is with management - twice now we have attended in the middle of a weekend day, kids in tow, only to be refused food service as there is a function on or its too busy. It is clear mismanagement of the kitchen staff schedule if they cannot cope with food orders for a half filled pub. I counted more than 50% of the tables both inside and outside unoccupied yesterday when they told us the kitchen were too busy to serve us food - not even a couple of bowls of chips for the kids. No manager available when we wanted to complain. I checked their social media and they had not made any mention of a function or any warning that food would not be available before we went there. Won't be going back there again - unpredictability is unforgivable in the food service industry, customers just won't take a risk again after this sort of thing happens twice. To management - Sort out your kitchen staffing levels and it's capabilities, and please be aware that on a Saturday afternoon when there is a massive event on Golden Hill Sports ground that you might be slightly busier...
