Gryphon! what should we say? We came to Bristol we parked the parking was quite difficult because you need to pay but we got like we got the constitution of the venue saying basically everything about everything. Also regarding parking not really helping with the parking but just kind of giving the information about the parking Also telling us that accommodations need to be scheduled not two days before but the papers were sent two days before, but I guess itโs more our fault so we arrived and we park and then we entered so basically the first floor is like a classic metal bar that plays pretty.. like I donโt like metal bars but Michi said they played some Gojira which he likes I guess, overall they dig the place. that we started loading in if you have more than 22 inch kick youโre not getting in the venue because itโs very tight to load in things so make sure you bring maybe like a smaller kit that is not your biggest one. Donโt bring your Bonham kit, we took everything to the first floor where the venue is like shaped like a big arrow. Itโs a really smallโฆwhat?! Yeah! Like a pizza slice, it is shaped like a pizza slice, I guess it is an ongoing theme here with the pizza slice infrastructure in England. Any way small venue so make sure you play with your two piece or three peace bands, donโt bring your five piece I think capacity is like 50 people yeah and so we started like doing like organising everything and setting up the house Tech his name is Rob he was really really nice really really helpful with everything with all that setting up with the equipment and everything the system is exceptionally strong so like you have a lot of headroom for a place that doesnโt need so much headroom, Everything is carpeted, carpeted? that was quite nice so no need to bring the carpet. Sami said something about some paintings on the walls that were really nice of old school paintings. I didnโt notice it but Iโll take his word for it. what else?, the show was good was not as full as the one in Oxford. I donโt know exactly why maybe itโs a Wednesday maybe but it was alright. It wasnโt packed, but it wasnโt empty And yeah thatโs about it. We had beer so we got some. We got some water we didnโt got served food but thatโs nothing new and now we are on the way to Stonehenge and another more less stone place in a place also and then weโre going to Bournemouth which Rob is from Bournemouth by the way says itโs a really nice beach tosn which is surprising here in England. That Thereโs a nice beach weโre gonna find out weโre gonna find out. See you soon oh and then and the 24th we play in Bournemouth at the Anvil! The Anvil so see you...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place has so much potential to be a great pub but it falls short in a pretty significant way, I'll explain:
5 of us came into the pub, waiting for another. Our plan was to have 2 pints each before heading to a gig. With only 3 other patrons in the pub the bar maid completely ignored us when we walked through the door, clearly didn't want to serve us. We asked for beer recommendations and the bar staff ignored us again, so we asked one of the customers instead. One of our group wanted a stout so asked the bar staff if any stouts were on, her response: 'there's one over there' while looking at her phone and not even turning her head. Getting the message we all proply left the pub, clearly 5 extra customers was too much for her to handle.
One of us turned around and gave her the benefit of the doubt to check if a bar maid could genuinely be that rude, apparently she was settling someone's tab, which is fine, but why didn't she politely say that and say she will be with him in a minute? Instead she would rather give a customer the perverbial middle finger and tell him to work it out himself because how dare someone walk into a bar and want to know what beer is on at the time, especially when it looked like the bar maid had no other job to be doing at that moment.
All five of us are in the industry including one of us who has opened and owns his own pub, some of us have been in Bristol for over 20 years. None of us have ever met anyone working behind a bar who was so rude, and I cannot imagine why anyone would knowingly hire a person who would treat their customers like that.
Worst pub I've ever been to in Bristol by far, I recommend going across the road to The Sportsman. It takes you a grand total of 10 seconds and the atmosphere and staff are absolutely lovely. Gryphon needs to hire...
ย ย ย Read moreI am lucky enough to be one of the few people who has seen this pub grow from strength to strength since it was initially taken over by Mr Ashby. The pub is unique, eclectic and inclusive. I have introduced many a friend or colleague to the venue, regardless of their gender, age, music taste or orientation & it has always been received well. The atmosphere is varied, dependent of time of day, events etc but is always friendly...even when busy. The range of ales is superb. As a former regular, Ashby knows my tastes and is able to recommend a drink I would like within seconds. Hes got a wide knowledge of both music & drinks and for the most part, is a charming, amiable & entertaining host/landlord. Very much recommended & I wish The Gryphon every success...
