Whilst the dry spy is A really nice venue, the drinks are massively overpriced. Ā£11.50 for a double vodka and Coke is absolutely excessive given that the vodka served is just Smirnoff. A beer is around Ā£6. And the toilet whilst partially well decorated has broken fixings and fittings. Tonight with a group of friends and we all found the pricing excessive. We werenāt able to use the upper Terrace as there was a birthday party going on, staff were pleasant. But this is Bromsgrove and I donāt understand the premium pricing for basic drinks. I understand stand for cocktails but absolutely not for your regular drinks. I understand it is decorated to a higher standard than other establishments on the High Street, but they are asking considerably more money for the drinks than I believe is reasonable for a small town. Thereās also a certain level of Eliteism for want of a better word. Which I think is the reason that they can get away with their pricing. if youāre going to charge excessive amounts and then restrict the one area that most people want to sit in During the summer without prior warning. to a closed off area, then you need to provide something special and itās simply doesnāt. There was actually somebody upstairs with a Newborn baby with really loud music, which I thought was Rather disconcerting As itās not particularly healthy for the child to be in that environment, and perhaps the staff or The owners Should have stepped in and asked for the family to leave. We only came across this when we went to use the Terrace to be turned away as it was a private function. No disrespect to the people hiring it However, the dry spy really need to tell Their customers before they pay for their overpriced drinks l, as downstairs was very warm and uncomfortable for our group. For Me all hype no substance. again, I will absolutely applaud the decor, but decor does not make for atmosphere or demand such a high price range. I would suggest that if the upstairs is going to be used for functions, the consumer is given advance warning before purchasing drinks as we would not have stayed in those...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe made our second visit to the Dry Spy this year, on one of their event evenings. We were there for āMagic at the Tableā with a set 2 (Ā£16.95) or 3 (Ā£22.95) course menu. 3 choices were on offer for each course. The magician Wayne Humpries was amazing with his sleight of hand card tricks and banter 100% recommend him. The drinks were outstanding and the food was good although gunpowder potatoes were a little under cooked and not spicy but the sea bass and the beef pot pie were delicious. Gravies were a little too salty for our tastes but the drinks helped there! The staff are brilliant and the venue is lovely but there werenāt many patrons which was a shame. We felt that better advertising would help tremendously. I signed up as a club member at the end of last year but have received no event information and we only knew about this event due to a flyer picked up on our last visit. The open table booking system works well, however the information on the venues website is lacking in detail about each event. A proposed menu and descriptions of the events would offer clarity and I suspect many more bookings. All in all we had a wonderful time and we look forward to our next visit with excited...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe overall experience was delightful, except for the choice and volume of music. While fast, loud music might enhance evenings with cocktails and beer, it seemed out of place during a Sunday lunch. At times it verged on being comical; we couldn't decide whether to eat our Yorkshire pudding or grab some glowsticks! Nevertheless, the Sunday lunch and service were excellent, with generous portions of tasty, hot dishes beautifully presented. However, the lack of a vegetarian roast option was a slight disappointment. It would be wonderful to see what the chef could create for vegetarian and vegan diners. Despite being too full for dessert, we had planned to try one of the tempting cocktails before leaving. Unfortunately, like others before us commented, the music was off-putting. I hope the Dry Spy will consider playing more background acoustic or 1920s themed music for Sunday afternoons. We would love to return with our family, but not while it feels like a 90s rave flashback. After a long week of work, a girl simply wants to relax and enjoy a lunch and good conversation. Sunday...
