I have been eating Pie n Mash for over 30 years and have eaten in the most famous, and not so famous. I even worked as a cook in Ye Old Pie n Mash in Borehamwood many moons ago when i was a teenager. So, I thought that I'd pop over to this establishment ( I have a vague recollection of visiting their Walthamstow shop with my nan in my early years) I drove from Welwyn Garden City as didn't fancy a train trip to Deptfords wonderful pie n mash and it was well worth the 30-minute drive. The lady at the counter was very friendly and took my order within seconds of entering the shop. I went for the good old Double pie n mash and can happily say that the mash was fluffy, and the pies were filled to the brim and tasted lovely with a bit of pepper and some chilli vinegar. If you love pie n mash , get down to this amazing little gem as it does exactly what you're hoping to find. Overall, it was a very hearty and comfortably warming eating experience on a cold afternoon. Will i go back....yes! Also, they do not take cards, so ensure that you have cash. There is a santander a few yards down from the shop with an ATM.

If you want to dive into and ancient (100+ years) atmosphere of a working class pie and mash place this is the spot. But the food was bad. Not salty and the liquor was watery. The mash was good enough - natural as it can be. But i love pies and the only good thing about this particular was it’s crust - but it was not well baked at the down side and the filling was plain and not tasty at all. They should improve their quality!

Came in to try the eels, not my cup of tea but still great. The ladies noticed I wasn't exactly love the texture of the eels, so they gave me a pie and mash which was phenomenal. Would love to visit here again if I am ever in town

A decent pie & mash shop, maybe not quite as good as Castles in Camden, or Kelly's on the Roman Rd, but that's just my opinion. I've read other reviews on here some only giving 1 star, and complaining about the pies and the gravy. I'm sure these people are not familiar with traditional pie shops. Pie and mash is historically poor food, made for Londons working class. The pastry used is called water pastry, basically flour water and a bit of seasoning, traditionally with a minced mutton filling. The mutton has been replaced with minced beef these days, but the pastry remains the same. The pies are meant to be rather plain, it's what gives them their character. As for the complaints about the gravy....! If you require gravy on your traditional pie and mash, Traditional pie and mash is...
