My friend and I happened to be walking past at dinner time, so we just popped in, not really knowing what to expect. What greeted us was a really nice, authentic "Cha chaan teng", a casual Hong Kong style cafe/restaurant. We made the trip out to Bury for the "So Hong Kong Market", so it was the perfect end to our day.
It has a really down-to-earth charm with delicious food that hits all the right notes. In particular, the Hong Kong style French toast was super tasty and nostalgic; crispy and crunchy on the edges, soft and fluffy inside and just the right balance of sweet and salty. (Be careful if you have nut allergies though, this dish typically has peanut butter in the middle.)
The service was friendly but a little slow, the food comes out as it's made. I might have knocked half a star off for service, but it was busy, so I'll give them a pass.
The other highlight was seeing the Lennon wall covered with post-it notes and looking all the doodles and the messages of support, it was really heartening to see.
I'll definitely try to come back, the next time I'm...
Read moreThe “winter special” features Hong Kong-style individual hotpots, and I chose a beef hotpot with a satay soup base. The satay soup base was average. If there were sauce options, I would recommend choosing a clear soup base with satay sauce on the side—it might deliver a stronger satay flavor. That said, I’ve yet to come across an outstanding satay soup base. If I were to rate this satay hotpot a 6 or 7 out of 10, then the lamb brisket pot would be an 8 or 9. Personally, I prefer lighter flavors, so I deducted a point for the saltiness. The lamb brisket pot stands out for its tender lamb, perfectly balanced between lean and fatty cuts, with excellent texture. Both the lamb brisket pot and the beef hotpot are generously portioned. With the Hong Kong-style set meal, which includes a drink and vegetables, it’s definitely a great dinner option. Last week, I tried the shredded pork fried noodles, featuring crispy Hong Kong-style noodles with shredded pork. Served hot, it was both delicious and comforting, with a portion size that’s perfect for men. Definitely...
Read moreIt was rammed on a Saturday lunch Fear not there additional seating upstairs.
Service was super friendly very different from what you expect from certain HK style cafe.
We ordered three dish’s as a greedy person as I wana try everything We had Taiwanese fried chicken with chips as fruit salad sold out, Hainanese chicken with rice and baked pork chop tomatoe sauce rice.
Wasn’t long wait and the food arrived promptly, even it was a busy Saturday trading.
Food was good portion size, perfect amount for me as I didn’t want to over indulge, all very delicious.
The pork was tender and wasn’t too porky as that can be sometimes, the hainanese chicken was flavourosme with three dipping sauces the Taiwanese chicken was yummy but perhaps needed a tiny bit more seasoning but I still demolished it regardless.
Highly recommend if you want a quick fix of HK affair if you’re in the vicinity.
Definitely will return again and sample...
