These are the things I noticed because I am a wheelchair user with ASD (Autism).
UPDATE — 15/3/19 Despite what transpired below, I've changed my mind a little towards this place having subsequently returned to get a better service from them, albeit marginally. The food nothing to write home about still, but it turns out they keep their best staff secret or for the mornings ... And there's only 2 of them, it would seem.
Previously, I had been to this place a few times, and had been more than happy with eating here, whilst staying at the Premier Inn right next to it. After having such a decent experience, only about a year and a half ago now, it was a shame to return here to such a... troublesome... experience. It took a long time to even be acknowledged when waiting to be seated — staff would pass by and not even look, let alone acknowledge you were there and ask you to please wait. When seated, it was hardly “service with a smile”, and they practically ran off without you.
Staff were harried and in too much of a rush to listen, discuss, or even ask if you needed anything else with your dinner when they came to bring it. You could tell there wasn’t enough of them to go round, with a small handful of them tending the bar as well as giving a full waiting service to the restaurant. Trying to even find someone to get their attention was a task in and of itself. It was, to me, a rather uncomfortable and unpleasant atmosphere, and it was difficult for me to be there.
Customer Service was non-existent. Quality of the food was rather mediocre. It certainly wasn’t how it used to be when I last came in. The amount offered was probably adequate, yet the way it was cooked often wasn’t quite to the standard I had hoped for, and the amount charged for it was rather excessive, to be honest.
What was worse, was that the manager of the place was even more unhelpful and rude than the people he employed, and was even more culpable for having zero customer service skills, especially with someone who is “Disabled”.
When I gave my order, I was in a rush and skipped over the description too fast and missed that it came with something I cannot tolerate. When I realised it, I asked the waitress to take it away, and told her I did Not want a replacement. Apparently, she put the request in for one regardless. Then the manager appeared, demanding to know why he basically had two orders of the same. When my companions and I tried to explain the situation, he became haughty, arrogant and stand-offish, throwing the “blame” for these two “unwanted” dishes on me, stating, “well, there are two burgers in my kitchen and someone has to pay for them”. Again, we explained that it was the waitress’ decision, not mine, to have a replacement, yet he still “blamed” me — insisting that she only got another one because “[I]said [I’d] wanted it”. He seemed to think his staff were entirely blameless, and the customer was to blame. When he said he was going to get the Waitress’ account, I snapped into the Meltdown I had been trying so very hard to control up until then. Before it could get too far, I picked up my stuff and wheeled myself out, leaving my companions to the manager to fix it.
Apparently, the manager slid all the way down his high horse when he was told I was Autistic, and then the waitress told him it was company policy to ask for a replacement (yet, he had insisted it was my fault another had been made!). I was told he took his sweet time returning from speaking to the waitress, avoiding it even. But then he finally relented and allowed the item to be taken off the bill.
I couldn’t really recommend the place in the management state it’s currently in. But it’s not a bad place in general. But I had a really...
Read moreIf I could give them no stars I would. Stayed at the premier Inn for work this was the premier Inn restaurant. We paid for a meal deal. So weren't expecting much.
We arrived at the restaurant at the time we had booked for. Waited 5 minutes to be seated and were then shoved in a corner very close to a large party table. After about 15 minutes the waiter came over and took our orders. We ordered Nacho's and Buttermilk chicken for starters. For mains we ordered the BBQ burger and Bacon and cheese double stack. Nothing overly negative at this point. The drinks arrived and then about 30 minutes later the starters arrived. Once we had finished our starters the plates were then left with us and we were ignored for at least another 15 minutes. At this point we noticed people who had come in after us were getting their main courses. We sat for a little longer then a different server (a waitress this time) appeared with a meal. Which was a chicken and beef burger. The waitress was very insistent that this was what we had ordered. So she went off to the till to check and came back again with this meal still insisting its the right order. My colleague's burger had no crispy bacon on it but it did have rather well done sweet potato fries. So while we waited for the correct burger for me we also waited for some crispy bacon. A small slice of rather limp anemic looking bacon was presented on a plate to us. At least this one was edible and correct now. So still waiting for my meal. Another 20 minutes pass and finally it arrived. With very pale looking sweet potato fries that hadn't been in the fryer quite long enough but hey ho it's food. Then while I was eating this the waiter came over and said that they had taken the burger off the bill. "Oh so how does that work? As we have paid for a meal deal with Premier Inn and as such the food is already paid for" was our answer. He looked a bit confused and said it was OK we don't have to pay for my burger. Then another 5 minutes pass and he cam back over and said "I've been told to offer you a free drink". Now having worked in both kitchens and customer services for quite a while I know that this is not how you phrase this. I found it rather contrived. We finished up our meals and decided that we would not be coming back other than for breakfast, which by the way, wasn't great either. Where's the Costa coffee you advertise? The Premier Inn breakfasts also state Costa coffee not coffee in...
Read moreWent for an impromptu meal there 24 Aug 21 and to say I was disappointed would be something of an understatement. We arrived to be informed that no less 18+ items on the menu were unavailable due to an apparent shortage of lorry drivers! When asked to see a drinks list I was told sorry we have run out of drinks lists. Ordered drinks to be told sorry the ice machine was broken so no ice. Ordered starters and then waited for 25+ minutes in a half empty restaurant for starters to be served. My daughter had mozzarella dippers which you could have played golf with they were that overcooked which is probably why we had a 25 min wait whilst the alleged chef created them!! Lime and soda drinks were so diluted down the only taste was soda water. My wife ordered Salmon in an hollandaise sauce only to be informed they had ran out of sauce but she could have the stuff they used for the prawn cocktail. There was a hair in the side order of dirty fries which I can only presume was an ingredient to give them the title 'dirty fries'. When my daughter asked for bbq sauce for her burger 10 mins later a 'personality free' waiter informed us there was none. I spoke to a manager who glared at me, came back 5 mins later with a dish of bbq sauce followed 30 seconds later by the original waitress with 2 more dishes of bbq sauce, all as my daughter finished her rather dry and yes overcooked burger. The side order of garlic bread was something akin to a piece of local slate, again seriously over cooked. This meal overall was truly pathetic. Chef! if you can't cook even simple stuff like this what the hell are you doing anywhere near a kitchen You are a disgrace to your profession. Harbour Table table! You are a very poor restaurant in an otherwise beautiful location. If you cannot deliver then move out and make way for a company that can....
