Went there Saturday night for a meal, after checking internet for local restaurants, and certainly glad we choose this place. It appears quite small from the outside, but the room stretches quite a way back. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, tho there wasn't a large choice to choose from. We both had the fish cakes to start. They were absolutely the best fish cakes we'd ever had. The texture was perfect, home made with large pieces of smoked fish and sea food. It came with a salty pesto, but to be honest, the fish cakes were seasoned so well, to add anything else was not necessary. The mains were ok, but the accompaniments were a little unimaginitive. We both ordered fillet steak, which although tasted nice and was a tender piece of steak, was slightly overcooked for my partner. He ordered medium rare, but was more medium. It came with excessively thick chips, mushrooms & corn on the cob, which I'd have expected from a grill house rather than a chic little restaurant. The desserts were the usual sort of choices tho the cheesecake was really nice. Some reviews on the website mentioned slow service and poor staffing, but we found all of the staff cheerful, pleasant and helpful, and enjoyed having a joke with the customers. With regards to slow service, I think it's normal for Italian style restaurants, and was nice not to be hurried between courses. We had time to relax and chat, and to digest the meal before the next course. I would recommend the Wal and would definitely...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of enjoying a breakfast at the Wal Restaurant in Caernarfon, and what a lovely experience it was! Richard, our waiter, was the epitome of elegance and politeness, making us feel truly welcome. He’s the perfect example of what great service should be.
We started our day with the Welsh breakfast, and it brought pure joy ! The flavors were just right, the sausage is out of this world, the freshly grilled musrooms are amazing, and pairing it with a cup of their exquisite filtwr coffee was a delight. The restaurant offers a great range of vegan dishes too, so there's something for everyone.
Wal Restaurant has outdoor seating, which is perfect for enjoying a sunny day with the spacious layout inside offers different table sizes for families or groups, western type diner seats and the front of the diner has that charming old-school vibe. Plus, the 15th-century original arch brickwork adds a special spot of history, making the whole experience feel even more special ( as was told by Richard himself).
Overall, Wal Restaurant is a beautiful blend of history and delicious food—highly...
Read moreWow, this is how you run a restaurant and how you treat customers. What a lovely place and a lovely experience from start to finish. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. I am a Coeliac and that's not always easy, but the staff are knowledgable, flexible and instill confidence that I'm not going to be poorly with gluten. We had a family of 6 people, plus 4 very well behaved dogs, we were sat in a lovely part of the restaurant which is designed in such a way that the dogs are unlikely to get in the way or disturb others. We were asked for drink orders as soon as we sat down and drinks were delivered very quickly indeed, that allowed us to take time and read the extensive menu. Our food orders were taken around 10 minutes later and the food probably only took around 20 minutes to arrive despite the number of us. One of our dishes came a few minutes later, for which they apologised, but honestly, that was minor and no problem at all. Food was absolutely perfect. We left a tip and we particularly thanked the younger staff who were starting out and well guided by the...
