I'm sure the staff do their best here amidst trying times and for scant reward, but a little more politeness and organisation would not go a miss. The box for the track and trace details is located 2 miles from the table with the slips on and in an obscure location I almost felt like picking up the table and moving it myself ! We were virtually grunted at when announcing we did not have the app and had no Intention of downloading it ,as a result we were left for 10 minutes before a member of staff came to our table. Being of a certain age the seal was soon broken and a trip to the gents was required, I again entered the building to ask for directions the lady behind the bar abruptly asked if I was outside which was quite obvious as they are not serving inside, along with a stare from 5 metres that would turn any man to stone ....However worse was to follow. After a pleasant afternoon consisting of 5 pints and 2 gins which took 4 and a half hours to consume we decided on one more for the road.On receipt of the final drink we were informed that the lady I was accompanying would no longer be served any alcoholic for reasons we could not fathom it made no difference as it was our last drink before home anyway .We did not kick up a fuss but are still mystified as to why no bad behaviour and Still mystified as to why,no bad language we observed the rules on masks etc but left feeling victimised. Maybe we were chosen as the 0.000001% of customers who must be seen seen to be dictated to under covid regulations during a simple afternoon out. So if you remember the bygone age when the pub was a place for adults to have a drink and a laugh instead of a place full of kids eating dodgy chicken nuggets then this place is not for you .What will they ban next laughing? Gets 2 stars for nice beer and...
Read moreWe arrived and sat at our table to see what food to order, a staff member walking passed was very abrupt at saying there was a 25 minute wait for food, which we said was fine. I ordered my food which was steak, (my preference was medium to well done), at the bar and when given my drink of pink gin and lemonade and it was placed in front of my I was informed there was no ice, but then another staff member walked passed with someone else’s drink and there was ice. It was only when I questioned this the staff member was informed there was plenty of ice.
Each persons food arrived and when mine was placed in front of me the server clearly heard me say that the steak was burnt and went to walk away, until one of my friends who was local called him back to say it was burnt. He lifted the plate and walked away with no apology. He came back to the table to say I had said I wanted it “just well done”. The steak resembled charcoal. He informed me there was no steak left, so I ordered a chicken burger instead.
The manager returned too pay me back the difference in price and also offered a free drink in return.
I will say I enjoyed the chicken burger when it eventually arrived 45 minutes later, and also after the rest of my party had eaten their food, and also after asking the manager numerous times where my food was that I ended up explaining to a female staff member who went away and got the food pretty much straight away and with an apology saying they didn’t realise how busy it would have been as they thought everyone would have returned home following the school holidays, so they didn’t have enough...
Read moreWent to this spoons for my Cousins 18th. There was two adults (my mother and auntie) and then my cousin, we waited over 45 minutes for our drinks when ordering on the app and when they arrived a staff member ID my cousin and then walked away. A few seconds later he came back to ID me when I am obviously over 18 (I’m 21) I had tattoos on show, was willing to show a picture of my ID, as I had left it at home, and I was with two fully grown adults. The man refused to believe that I was over 18 and said I was not allowed to drink the drink I had waited almost an hour for and had to watch my family drink their drinks. It was A level results day and there were people who were obviously under 18 drinking away without being asked for ID. His excuse was that my cousin looked much older than 18 and was concerned about my age even though he said I looked over 18. I have never once wrote a bad review for a bar/pub as I’m a bartender myself and know how stressful the job can be but this was absolutely ridiculous. Definitely don’t recommend this spoons, spend your money in a local pub instead who probably need the money more than a big business like spoons. I recommend the Four Alls around the corner, lovely...
