After visiting good karma coffee house multiple times now, today I had a very poor experience which no longer makes my half hour drive there worth it. The coffee here is always to such a good standard and is the reason I usually visit and make the effort to keep returning. I don't know if standards have dropped or what but today I wanted to try a breakfast here so I came, ordered a latte and pancakes and my relation ordered a latte and a bacon and tomato sandwich. While sat waiting in their uncomfortable booth seating (as mentioned in other reviews these are so badly thought out as they cause back ache on a short visit) we was enjoying a latte while waiting for food. We noticed the bacon sandwich ordered was sat under a hot light while we wait for the pancakes. This was okay for a minute but an easy 10 minutes passed and this sandwich is still sat there while staff stand and talk next to it instead of serving it or explaining that the rest is coming shortly.. Meanwhile the guy cooking the food can be seen picking up nearly all parts of someone's breakfast with his bare hands, and dropping it on another plate. Eventually the pancakes and dried out bacon sandwich come and were immediately sent back after seeing this guy preparing food, wiping his face, and wiping his hands on his clothes/apron etc. Food sent back, I went to pay for the coffee which I still enjoyed, as I do everytime there. A woman behind the till pulled a face and told me "he's clean he washes his hands". I wash my hands, but never would I prepare food the way he did. I'm gutted as I wanted to try breakfast here, but instead of trying to resolve the situation like a manager or whatever this woman was, she decided to take the route of turning her nose up, facing away and not even apologizing. She even tried to pull off the excuse of "we bring all food together". Anyone in food services knows you don't cook a quick sandwich before pancakes which take a while, as it'll have to sit and dry out under the hot light.
What a poor example set by this person. It's disappointing as the other staff besides these two mentioned are great.
In summary the coffee here is still and always has been great. But the customer service and hygiene is poor. Give this place a dust, a proper clean and train some staff on their customer service.
Unfortunately, based on this person's attitude, it's now off my list of favourites.
Edit: Just clocked their food hygiene rating is only a 3 🤢 I...
Read moreMixed feelings really. We had to queue 20 minutes which is kind of expected as it’s a busy place but no one came out to say how long it would be or apologise. We ended up sat with another couple of folk which we didn’t mind as we kept ourselves to ourselves and similarly they did too. I ordered three iced lattes - one of which had a vanilla shot in it. The waitress came over and gave my partner the one with vanilla in and me a plain one, but she’d got it the wrong way round. Next the food. My partner had the stateside which she said was amazing however my classic breakfast wasn’t so great. Bacon and Sausages (which I opted for an extra 2) were great. The sourdough toast was rock hard. I had trouble cutting it with my knife. The poached egg was tiny and overdone so the centre was completely solid. The Garlic and Rosemary potatoes didn’t have any garlic and rosemary on so had very little flavour.
The actual cafe is really nice though, very clean, the way it’s decorated is awesome and the lady behind the counter who took our order was very smiley and friendly, so good marks there.
I feel if there was a booking system for tables it’s might alleviate some of the waiting times and allow the food to be prepared a little better.
For three drinks, the two meals (extra sausages) it...
Read moreLovely good, albeit on the expensive side. Great selection to choose from and different to the normal brunch places. Would definitely recommend the food however the staff weren’t the most helpful. There was at least 3 or 4 members of staff stood around when we entered, 2 spare tables one with only one chair and another small booth that was full. We stood around trying to figure out where to sit whilst the staff just stood there having a natter. In the end we sat down and asked for someone to clear the table, which given the amount of staff stood around you’d have expected all of the tables to be emptied and restocked. We had no idea about where menus etc were stored and again had to ask. The staff just didn’t really seem as though they wanted to help. Given the price we paid for the food, I don’t think the service was up to scratch. The food however was really great and hopefully next time we visit we have a better experience. Reading through the reviews it seems as though there’s been a lot of comments in regards to the same thing over the past few years? seems as though unfortunately the advice isn’t being taken on board. Hoping next time I can come back and...
