Finally visited Crust and Crumb, but found the whole experience massively underwhelming. The café was freezing and with no music it felt uncomfortable to speak at a normal volume.
We ordered a Margherita and a Pepperoni. Both were unseasoned and bland. The dough on the the Pepperoni was underbaked by a minute or two. The bases were also not thick enough to hold the toppings.
We were told pizzas started at 12, but then heard there were to be no more until 1pm so I guess this explains they were unprepared for our order.
I did really enjoy the Garlic Aioli, but the amount given seemed wasteful. Dogs also welcome which is always a plus!
Response to owner - I will not be providing the specific date and time to allow you to snoop through your CCTV. However, if you did you would see we sat in coats and your staff were required to wear hoodies, not something I would expect from a room of 18 degrees. There was no music this day. Just people awkwardly trying to have somewhat private conversations.
As for your rude comments regarding my palette and knowledge of fresh ingredients; I have spent several months travelling Italy and eating Pizza with my fiancé who has worked in several 2/3 Michelin star establishments as a CDP/Sous Chef. Sadly, Salt, Pepper and dried Oregano will not mask the taste of gratinated, cheap 50/50 cheese mix, nor will it improve cheap tomatoes and under-proved sourdough. (as mentioned previously, 3 other customers were turned away for pizzas and the only explanation for this is that the dough was no proved)
If your establishment is some sort of training school to give young people a start in life/the hospitality industry then your prices should reflect that and they should be supported by professionals at all times and you should seek charitable donations to aid said start in life, not leave them to run your establishment and expect customers to pay full price for substandard service/products.
I've attached several fresh Neapolitan Pizzas we have eaten in the past few months for...
Read moreWe visited for lunch on Saturday. The place has lots of potential - nice atmosphere and good menu - but failed to deliver.
The sandwiches on display were already made up and looked like they'd been made the previous day at that - the egg mayo had a skin on and the tomato / mozzarella salad looked dry.
We ordered lemon drizzle cake, which was just sat uncovered on the counter. Don't know how long it had been sitting there but it was very stale and as hard as a rock, The young girl behind the counter offered us another piece but we overheard her telling a colleague that all of the pieces were just as hard. Consequently we declined her offer. We would have appreciated an alternative or refund for the inedible cake but was never offered.
Staff behind the counter were not particularly effective. We had to ask for glasses and cutlery and based on their response and the time taken to bring them, you'd think we had asked...
Read moreJust visited here so thought I'd review whilst it's fresh in my mind.
No greeting or anything by the staff as you enter so you don't know if you can just sit down, or whether you need to order at the till etc.
We sat down and eventually figured out how to get a menu.
We tried to order a tuna melt sandwich and a halloumi bun but we're told the only things available were the sandwiches in the counter. So we had the egg sandwich and the salmon bagel as they were the only things offered to us and two lattes.
The lattes were very weak to the point they tasted just like warm milk, the bread on the egg sandwich was stale. The salmon bagel was ok.
The annoying thing was, the table next to us had a breakfast sandwich and other things to eat, so there clearly was more than just the sandwiches in the counter.
I was recommended this place but it was very...
