Sorry but our Mother's Day dining experience at Stubbing Wharf was terrible. We ordered very simple starters, which took 70 (!) minutes to arrive, and other tables around us were served before us, although arriving after us. I complained three times to the waitress, who after the last time, said our starters were on the pass now, but it still took 10 minutes from that time to arrive. My two tiny chicken skewers tasted burnt and were served on a bed of raw bell peppers. My son got some stewed mushrooms in a sauce on a white bread, which for the main part was edible and my daughter was brought a massive plate with two sad looking garlic bread pieces on it. The waitress (who was the only friendly member of staff) was apologetic and said we would get our mains straight away after the starters. Which I guess meant that when we got them, they had been re-heated/kept warm for ages, and were mostly inedible.
My roast dinner had a selection of burnt roast potatoes, overcooked carrots, one soggy Yorkshire pudding and a potato mash hidden underneath it (why was this there when roast potatoes were already given). The mash was the most disgusting mash I have every been served - it stuck to the spoon and wouldn't come off and the texture was something you get in a microwaved mash. Everything was totally covered in a overly salty gravy which meant that the whole plate was incredibly soggy. My son's chicken supreme was completely overcooked/burnt and he had a few bites and had to leave the rest. My daughter's beef burger was edible but very very basic. The food here used to really good in the past but this was a total shambles and I won't be returning again. The manager seemed pretty laissez faire about the complaint and just said the kitchen was busy. Sorry, but there was absolutely no love shown in the cooking of this food and to keep us waiting for that long for food with a...
Read moreFailed in the basics of their business of taking an order and then providing food in return for payment and really didn’t seem all that bothered about it. This turned what was meant to be a nice treat in my wife’s lunch break to a hungry crying toddler, a missed lunch for my wife, and me being furious at both the incompetence and lack of interest in offering a sincere apology. 1)having been interrupted partway through giving my order to the bar staff by the manager (I presume) with a half-hearted apology that I had to wait as ‘there was an issue with an order’ 2)after taking my order they then failed to send it to the kitchen which I discovered when after at least 30 mins with a hungry crying toddler and my wife needing to go back to work I went back to the bar to ask where our food was only to be told the bar man had ‘forgotten’ to ‘put it through’! 3)A refund and free drinks were offered, but not with any indication of embarrassment at this most basic fail, or any apology that seemed like my order was in any way important. 4)the manager (I presume) then asked what the issue was, and I stated our order hadn’t been sent to the kitchen which only resulted in another half-hearted apology as apparently ’there was a rush on’ (which was the order AFTER mine was given) and ‘mistakes do happen’ 🤣 5)even though they had offered free drinks, they then refunded me just for the food until my stern objection. Utterly rubbish, I strongly recommend you avoid going...
Read moreWe had a bit of a strange experience here. The positives are that the food was good and there were loads of vegan and vegetarian options. When I asked about gluten free options (there being nothing obvious on the menu I got the reply that the potato skin starter was the only option. We were about to leave when I noticed steak on the specials board. Yes they could do that without onion rings which was great. They then served it with onion rings! After an apology they took the rings away. As the server left I asked if they had any mustard? "I don't think so but I'll check". Sadly I did not see him again until after the meal. Other tables had baskets of condiments I later noted. Then as we were finishing our meal someone added gammon steak to the specials. No doubt gluten free. I have given them the benefit of the doubt with three stars , but if you are on a gf diet it is best avoided. Oh, and there was an aggressive gsd making life difficult for anyone else who had a dog. The customers fault, not the dogs and the landlord did not know what to do .
I downgraded to two stars when the response showed that they had clearly not read the review suggesting they will not...
