What a dreadful experience this visit was, as we were celebrating a birthday celebration for eight on a Saturday night, we booked in advance. The place did not give great first impressions walking up to it. I noticed how unaspiring the place looked, with poor lighting it was only when someone else from the party commented on how it looked like a takeaway at best, that warning signs started. We navigated 3 busy pelican crossings to find the entrance. Upon arrival at 7pm, we advised the waitor that we had a table booked for eight of us. The waitor looked a bit surprised, didnt bother to ask us the name the party was booked in, and said that they was really busy in the restuaruant but he would temporary sit us in the waiting (take-away) area until our table was ready. So we waited around, until he put together 3 tables, and laid out a table cloth, it didn't look temporary with eveything in place, but hey ho.
However, the waiting room was lacking atmosphere, blandly decorated and absolutely freezing, I had to sit with my coat on, and despite asking for some heating, it never got any walmer. The table that was set up, was next to the door, and people kept coming in and leaving the door open, so the room had no way of keeping warm, but I doubt the room had any heating on. It's a bring you own booze restuatrant, which we already was aware of, which is just as well, as soft drinks were never offered to us.
We ordered some popodoms and dips to start off with and eventually the waiter took our order, again this was an awful exerience, he tutted at one of guests as he had to change one of the orders that he had written down wrong, and we had to repeat back to him numerous times what we had ordered, It was a bit too much like Fawty Towers.
The restuarant had been receommended to us, and as it was a busy night both in town and the restaurant, so, we didnt complain and made the best of it.
However, the popodoms eventualy came and when they did they were stale and tasted as if the had been cooked hours before the were served to us.
Then the painful wait for the food stated, we waited and waited and waited to the point that it was getting ridicalous, the waitors who must have known how long we had been kept waiting, walked past the table numerous times, without looking at any one of us, without any explanations, at 20.10, some 70 minutes after arriving, we aksed the waitor how much longer we would be waiting and he went off to find out, he didnt come back with any update. One of the party, asked another waitor for our bill, and he didn't seem to understand what was going off, and started tapping on the calculator/till for food that we had not even been served. Another large party at this stage had also arrived for thier pre-booked table, and stood around our table. We wished them well and advsied we had been waiting for over an hour, for our food.
At 20.25, some 85 minutes after arriving and being sat in this freezing cold room we all decided we couldnt wait any longer, and advsied them we would be leaving and asked for the bill for the popodoms. I asked if they would be charging us for the stale popodoms, at which point the waitor, fistly never apologised and secondly started to say they were really busy and 2 hours behind. I explained we had pre-booked and it was too late in the evening for us to accept this, and they agreed they would not charge us for the popodoms.
We left, and went to another Inidian restaurant, who thankfully was able to accomodate us.
I'm typing this review the next day, full of cold.
Thanks for that Swadish, unfortunatley none of the party will be returning, or recommendiing this restuarant, I may wish to add that I run a YouTube channel, you will be pleased to know we had a night off last night and wasnt filming, as this would not have come accross well. We have reviewed over 70 restuarants and this by FAR has been the worst we have visited and that was before we had any food other than the stale popodoms, appreciated that you are newish restaruant - Team Swadish you need to go back to...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Swadish, and I must say, their curry is absolutely outstanding. From the moment it arrived at the table, the rich aroma hinted at the delicious experience to come.
The curry was seasoned to perfection, striking just the right balance of spices to create a deep, complex flavour without being overpowering. Each mouthful was a delightful blend of heat and creaminess, with the spices complementing each other beautifully. The fresh ingredients were evident, as the vegetables retained their texture and the meat was tender and soaked up the sauce wonderfully.
Portion sizes were generous, ensuring a satisfying meal. The presentation was also impressive, with the curry served in a traditional bowl and garnished with fresh herbs, adding a lovely touch of colour.
What truly made the experience special was the attention to detail and the evident passion for quality. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring every aspect of the meal was perfect.
In summary, Swadish offers a curry that is a must-try for anyone who loves great food. The exquisite flavours, quality ingredients, and fantastic service make it a dish worth coming back for. Highly...
Read moreUnable to comment on the restaurant, as we ordered takeaway.
Easy ordering process and food was delivered on time, but food not to our taste I’m afraid.
Two different dishes ordered, and both were quite watery and bland. Portion sizes were also small, and prices were more expensive than other takeaways in the area.
EDIT - Thank you for your response Team Swadish. With regards to the legitimacy of my review - reviewing your restaurant prompted a realisation that we had never reviewed our local curry house. I felt they deserved a review, and therefore left one just after yours. We do like to try a number of different curry houses across the Elland/Brighouse area, and can assure you that your portions aren’t close to being the most generous. To give some context - in the last 8-10 weeks we have also ordered from Chariots, Royal Delhi, Zam Zam, Bengal Brasserie, and Curry Chef.
As a local business we wish you well, and will order again in a few months to see if our last order...
