THE ENGINE ROOM - Best Full English in Halifax, perhaps even Yorkshire.
When I first looked at visiting Halifax in mid-December, I thought it looked rather bleak.
But all the old wool carpet mills have been turned into an array of offices for various companies with cafes, restaurants and bars on the ground floors, and a Travelodge, where I stayed, at one end of Dean Clough Mills.
The Engine Room is typical of finding a great cafe that really doesnāt look like much from the outside due to the stone built exterior and you wouldnāt know itās a hidden gem.
Inside thereās a large easy to read menu but best of all the prices for the food you receive, are absolutely worth every penny.
I had been in an another cafe further in the town centre the day before for an all day breakfast but it was twice the price and nowhere near the quality of the Engine Room Full English.
Tell me where else can you get whatās in my photo for Ā£6.50 plus a hot drink for Ā£2.60, all for well under a Ā£Tenner these days?
Food quality, the Full English is cooked to perfection. The mushrooms and small grilled tomatoes are a great touch, not swimming in tomato juice. Two lovely sausages and everything exactly as you want a cooked breakfast away from home to be.
The Travelodge doesnāt do a cooked breakfast but it couldnāt compete with the Engine Room, if it did. Could anywhere in Yorkshire? Thereās a challenge.
I know where Iām going for breakfast, midday snacks and lunch the next time Iām in Halifax - The...
Ā Ā Ā Read more6 of us went for breakfast after a stay at the local travelodge. The service was fine and drinks came quickly. The poached eggs on toast also came quickly and was hot. Unfortunately the 5 full English breakfasts came a while later and were all quite cold. The beans on mine were hot but not on the others. The butter on the toast hadn't even melted as the toast was already cold and the mushrooms were quite raw. One person asked for extra sausage and no bacon but this wasn't done, they brought extra sausages but they were also cold and undercooked. Won't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEDIT - I went back this morning, we spoke about my previous order and they were very nice and understanding about it and it was partly due to new cookware differing the cooking times slightly. Safe to say I got the same sandwich only this time it was cooked to perfection!!
Egg was overcooked and toast was undercooked, basic culinary science wouldn't go amiss here. Decent...
