Food is nice although the hot sandwiches a little oily.
The desserts are quite overpriced and the price isn't always shown on them. Ordered a hot sandwich for about £7 got two brownies expecting maybe £3 each tops and the bill came to £16, making them nearly a fiver! I wouldn't mind if it was really good quality, but the brownies were dry on the outside and quite mid.
Staff were abrasive and a little rude.
I've seen staff members using the same spatula for the chicken as halloumi, which isn't good if you're a vegetarian/Muslim because the chicken and other meat is actually stuck on like black tar to the spatula and makes contact with the halloumi.
I've also seen staff members getting tuna on their hands then going straight in to pick up salad or something, no gloves. Not good for allergy suffers.
It's okay to go occasionally if I'm right by it and it's lunch time, but it's never gonna be my regular spot and I'm off-put by the cross contamination and staff members attitudes.
EDIT: In response to the owner's reply, my review isn't entirely negative. I give a three star rating. I don't think the place is awful, just fairly average.
I have been fair in my review.
I did genuinely see a staff member using the same spatula for the chicken as halloumi and black stuff was stuck on it.
I did see a staff member preparing some kind of tuna sandwich, got a little on their hands and then dip those hands (no gloves) to grab some rocket or something.
I said the sandwich was nice but a little oily. I think that is fair, especially when on food alone I give a four star rating.
The owner's reply is just evidence of that abrasive nature the staff seem to have there.
They won't even address what I say other than imply I am a liar and my review is negative, despite a 3 star rating overall and a 4 star rating for food and saying the sandwiches are nice.
I didn't even say the brownie was bad, just mid (average).
My review is fair, honest...
Read moreRegularly, orders are incorrect, but the icing on the cake was a member of staff's attitude towards me.
I have been a regular customer of their shop for nearly a year now, and on every occasion, I order multiple sandwiches. It was not uncommon, every 2/3 orders, for them to get part of the order wrong, but we tolerated this because we enjoyed their food. However, after today, I will no longer be using them. I placed an order via phone for 5 sandwiches. The lady who took the order made no attempt to repeat the order back. Upon collection of the order, I noticed the charge was a little bit high, and I noticed on the receipt we had been charged for 7 sandwiches when we ordered 5. I went back in to address the issue; the lady who first served me was fine and said they had 3 of one item, which we only ordered one of, so she fetched from the back the lady who supposedly took the order, and she insisted straight away that I had ordered 3. I know what I ordered as I placed the order, and I know how many staff members I have and what I ordered. If she had repeated the order back on the phone, all of this could have been avoided. This is not where my issue lies; it was her attitude towards me. She was rude and insisted that I had ordered the item instead of trying to find a solution, with phrases like "yeah, you did mate." First of all, I'm not your mate, but it was her lack of effort or willingness to resolve the matter and resulting in blaming her paying customers for her shortcomings. I left the shop due to her attitude. It's not about the money, as I didn't pursue the matter and have paid for the items It's the rudeness in the way she spoke to me. Keep the £12 extra, as it's the last order you will...
Read moreA Disappointing Culinary Interlude After a Lovely Walk - Especially for £17.50! My recent visit to this establishment, following a delightful walk, was unfortunately a stark reminder that appealing aesthetics don't always translate to quality. While the interior certainly boasts a pleasant, albeit slightly pretentious, charm for a town like Sowerby bridge, the food was a considerable letdown, especially given the eye-watering £17.50 price tag for our order. My tuna mayo on white bread was overwhelmingly seasoned; the only discernible flavor was a barrage of black pepper, completely eclipsing any hint of tuna. My son's plain ham sandwich, priced at a rather steep £5 (part of that £17.50 total!), was equally disheartening. The ham itself looked old and grey, and the butter or margarine had a distinctly bitter and horrible taste that completely overpowered any potential ham flavor, despite a generous portion. Even my usually ravenous son, who loves ham sandwiches, took one bite and abandoned it. I attempted to finish it to avoid waste, but even my dog, usually an indiscriminate eater, turned up her nose at the ham when offered it at home. The mayonnaise in my sandwich was another oddity – it had a strange, set, dippy egg-like consistency with a distinctly chewy texture. My daughter immediately recoiled from it. Thankfully, her cinnamon bun, which she declared "banging," was the one redeeming food item. In summary, while the aesthetic surroundings inside the shop are pleasant, the food proved to be incredibly overpriced for its poor quality and taste. For £17.50, this was a truly wasteful and disappointing experience. I wish I had data when I was out so I could have shared images of the...
