Village Restaurant — Restaurant in Calderdale

It started off well, we arrived 15 minutes early and the table was ready for us but that was the only positive of the night. We chose this restaurant on the back of a recommendation. We were celebrating 3 people's birthdays. Once we were sat we made it clear that we were waiting for 2 more guests. During the 10 minutes it took them to arrive we were asked if we would like to order drinks or food 5 times (and this wasn't even different server's but the same 2). We finally ordered drinks and that was ok. Our starters came and some of them were ok but half of them had absolutely no flavour apart from they were all spicy. 1 of the dishes was brought out wrong and took a while for it to come back out. When our mains came there was a lot of issues. It started with them not bringing 1/3 of our dishes/sides then everytime we spoke to a server they would bring only 1 of the dishes missing and then we mention the others and this happened 5 times till we received most of the food. Then when we had all finished eating they brought out the final sides by which time we were all fed up and had eaten what we could. All the curries we had had no flavour. Overall, the food has terrible, the service was very poor and we left hungry and very disappointed. After asking 3 times and waiting for 15 minutes we spoke to the manager who after about 30 apologised and discounted the bill. We won't be returning and won't be recommending to anyone and there are nicer places in Sowerby...

Been visiting this restaurant for many years as loyal customers. We have always been treated really well, the food and service second to none. On a recent Sunday evening visit we were made to feel that a large party that were in the restaurant on a late Christmas party were much more important as they would be spending a substantial amount of money, we get this. What we don't get is the fact that there were 4 adults and around 16 to 18 teenagers, the majority of them unruly, standing and walking on seats, throwing food and constantly shouting and yelling.There was a lot of alcohol for these teenagers that did not look old enough to drink. We were led to believe they all worked together somewhere and the adults were the bosses, they ought to be ashamed. We were moved to a table away from the party but they were that rowdy it didn't make much difference. We could not enjoy our meal so we left after telling the managers we were appalled that they had condoned this behaviour. Shame this restaurant is allowed to be spoiled and influenced by a large sitting. Whilst many may say its the party causing the issue the management could have intervened. If it was our first impression of the restaurant we certainly would not...

Just an odd experience from start to finish. Booked table for 5 people as a Fri night. Arrived and table not ready. We watched as the staff actually moved people around to create a table for us. We were standing but told quite abruptly to sit down in the bar area. We then sat down. No alcohol was available (we explained that we had checked website and it said they served alcohol). No apology that the Web site was inaccurate - just blank looks. A couple of us went off to the local off licence. Finally ordered when we were all together and food was served very quickly. It was basic food - low quality ingredients and highly greasy. Lots of food colouring. It was still tasty but you know when you are eating stuff that's not good quality. The staff all acted as if they didn't want to be there and indeed they didn't want us to be there. The look and feel is very basic which is OK if the everything else is good. Good points - fast service, warm and tasty food, nan excellent Bad points - atmosphere and staff attitude (smiles might help), quality of food, poor website not stating BYO - I had checked several times and so had my husband.
