Roast & Toast, Cafe and Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in Calderdale

Stopped in Sowerby Bridge after an overnight stay in Halifax and thought we’d visit the local area on our way home. On arrival , first thing we did was look for somewhere to have breakfast and found this quaint little cafe, hidden below the main road and not far from the canal. It was Saturday morning and we were lucky to find a lovely table before more people poured in. Obviously it has a very good reputation. We had a sausage bap and bacon bap (which we shared, so we had half of each, each) and a pot of tea. Sausage and bacon was cooked as requested (well done as we like it) and was delicious and moreish. Bread was very fresh and made the perfect combination. ( I can be a bit fussy) We loved the decor and ambience of the cafe and even though it was busy, and got more so whilst we were there, we didn’t feel rushed. Only small negative, was that I had to wait quite some time at the till to pay, after we had finished, behind people waiting to order takeouts, because they were busy. Lovely local cafe. Busy. Which resulted in service not being great. Order taken promptly. However then waited yonks for 2 breakfasts and a tea cake. Had to chase after 40 mins or so. Appreciate how busy it was, but a couple next to us, that turned up 15 mins after us, ordered, had their food, had eaten and left before we even got ours. Having ordered similar if not the same meals. Having chased ( politely), food received was not worth the wait. Sorry. Think the kitchen may have had a mis hap. Live locally and Mum visiting from London, so wished it was better, but wasn't the best experience.. sorry..... Will try again and hope for a...

We came for a quick visit at the beginning of summer. Ordered a large portion of chips and some sweet treats. Aswell as 2 soft drinks and 2 milkshakes. The milkshakes were delicious! Cakes brought out very quickly however the portion of chips took almost 45 minutes which we had to chase. We were told that there was a wait for food from another customer however, we were not told this when ordering otherwise we would have left the chips and stuck to the sweet treats. Great cafe which a good selection of drinks and desserts. However the wait and lack of communication would put us off ordering...
