When I sat down I was glad to see that the desserts were on the cheaper end of the spectrum, however, they were not cheap enough for the service we received to be acceptable.
The staff are incredibly awkward - it is as if Elon Musk has created a new robot. I must say, if this is true, it's an impressive impression of a human (almost believable). I suspect that this is not the case however, it is simply that the staff have been given no training in human interaction. If it was 20 years down the line, I would blame it on being born during lockdown. However, it is not 20 years down the line. It was today (28/04/22 (my boyfriend's birthday (which was ruined))).
We waited 15 minutes for somebody to come up to us asking if we were ready to order (we had been ready for quite some time). I ordered the white chocolate and vanilla creme brulee with passionfruit sorbet. Half way through my boyfriend ordering the blackcurrant crumble she informed me that the creme brulee was out of stock: a travesty. I was put on the spot and asked to order something else. Instead I ordered the tiramisu (a mistake...).
Eventually, the food arrived.
The tiramisu was placed on the table. It looked at it and dissapointment filled my heart and soul. The picture certainly flattered it. The crumble was next, with a jug of custard.
It was the coldest, most gelatinous custard I have ever encounted. It "blobbed" onto the excuse of a plate* that the crumble was on. I tasted a small amount and that was too much. I don't know how my boyfriend managed to eat more than a spoonfull. I would like to know the exact recipe for this dish, but I would take a stab in the dark that 50% of it is cornflour and 7.3% sand.
The tiramisu was no better. I looked and felt room temperature. I wasn't sure whether or not to order the tiramisu because coffee tends to keep me up at night. I needn't have worried though, because I don't believe there was any coffee present in this dish. It came with a gritty hazlenut ice cream (an interesting choice) and chocolate shavings that I imagine were made from leftover Easter eggs from 2019.
All in all, the iced water was the star of the show (even this however, was a little tangy).
*the plate was shaped like a spaceship. I imagine this was to distract attention from the food which was...
Read moreGreat place, wonderful food and amazing atmosphere. Although it did take a while to place an order, get the food and then get the bill. It took about 20/25 minutes to place an order (even for drinks) yet the food only took around 15 minutes to arrive. After the wonderful meal we asked for the bill and it took around another 10minutes until we finally had to go up to the till and pay. The manager didn’t seem to be helping the staff at a really busy time and treated the customers with his hand and pointed to the table where he should have been taking them to sit down. He looked busy although wasn’t doing much, there were about four or more tables which had the same issues and the rest of the tables that were empty weren’t getting cleaned for the people waiting at the door. In one instance he had to ask a table (which had asked him to place their order before hand, yet he didn’t do so at the time) to move and sit somewhere else so he could fit others in. He also was giving, what looked like, full lectures to the staff rather than helping them with tables. One girl, Daisy, started her shift half way through we were there, she was really fast and was helping more than the manager was, yet he was giving her a lot of talk. There was also a girl making the drinks and she looked like she only just started as the manager looked liked he was having to train her, which we thought was peculiar as it was a Saturday afternoon which we thought would have been known to be busy and not a good time to train someone. Other than that, the food was excellent and I would really...

Heavenly desserts is usually one of my favourite places to grab a dessert in Cambridge and the quality used to be so good. However, the place has been closed for a while and they only opened again recently so my partner and I made a visit. Firstly, the place had so many more waiters than I’ve seen in the past and yet the service was horrible. We got our table and ordered our usual, the saffron milk cake and the San Sebastián cheesecake. We’ve had it a few times before to know that what we ordered wasn’t to the standards as before. The milk cake was uneven and looked tiny and shabby. The cheesecake on the menu says it is served with berries and chocolate sauce. However there were no berries on it when it arrived. Not to mention, the milk cake was also dense and crumbly and tasted nothing like it used to and same with the cheesecake. The place was also more chaotic and annoyingly bright so we decided to get out of there at the earliest. When waiter brought us the bill, we had shared honestly that the food wasn’t great and our other concerns. He confirmed our suspicions that the place had changed management and staff including kitchen and on the floor were all very new. The kitchen staff were learning the recipes so we had to understand that it was to be like this. The waiter was nice about it but a paying customer shouldn’t have to settle for mediocre food and service when we are paying the same price as before.
The place has to improve leaps under the new management but they are indefinitely loosing returning...
