A group of about 10 of go to this pub every week for food and a drink. That ends today. Earlier this evening, we were incorrectly served an extra meal at our table. We made three attempts to give it back:
Attempt 1: When the meal arrived, we said that we hadn’t ordered it. We were told that we had.
Attempt 2: We went to the bar with the meal and again said that it was incorrectly given to us. We were told to take the food back to the table, which we did.
Attempt 3: We requested to have the receipts for the meal to check if it had indeed been paid for by us. We were told that the receipts showed that it had been paid for by our table.
At this point, the food had been out for 15 minutes and was getting cold. Seeing as we had been told it had been paid for by us, we guessed that one of us may have accidentally paid for it and decided we might as well eat the food so it doesn’t go to waste.
We were THEN told that there had been a mistake, and the meal should have actually gone to another table. The bar staff apologised and allowed us to finish the meal.
A while after this, a man (who we assume was the manager) came over and told us, ‘You’ll have to pay for the meal’. When we tried to explain, he just repeated ‘You’ll have to pay for the meal’ over and over. We tried to explain the situation multiple times, even asking what they would have done with the food (he replied that they would have thrown it away!) but the manager was having none of it – he ignored us outright and just said we’d have to pay.
It seems incredibly unprofessional to make a mistake, tell your customers that they’re wrong, and then force them to pay for a meal they haven't ordered when you realise your mistake. It’s a real shame that after almost a year of coming here every week, spending around £100 each time, we’ll never be going back due to a manager’s rudeness over a meal...
Read moreVery nice looking pub inside and out but that's were the positives end.
The real problem was with the staff, asked for a table for 5 to have some food, the young woman took us to the table just pointed at the table and walked away without even explaining how the system worked with covid guidelines etc. Sat waiting for 10 minutes on menus but had to go interrupt the staff from making tiktok videos to grab some menus. You would have swore I had just walked into their living room and asked them the way they looked at us. If looks could kill. The food finally arrived and we sat another 10 minutes until the food was cold before the waiter came with our cutlery which again we had to ask for but that was likely because he stopped to make another tiktok on route.
No one even came near us again after the food was set down to check it we needed anything or to check everything was ok because they were busy dancing around the middle of the bar videoing each like it was some kind kids party
They didn't even bring the nachos we ordered and we ended up leaving because there was no chance ofgof their attention to asked them where our missing food was because by now they where putting props on their heads for yet another tiktok video.
I don't have tiktok but a young work colleague of mine does and he found these videos online. Feel free to have a look at the videos and it will soon explain why the food lands cold without any cutlery and the sides you pay for never even surface from the murky depths of the kitchen.
Hands down the worse service I have ever...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to The Prince Regent in Cambridge, I had the pleasure of experiencing a cozy, traditional pub with a welcoming atmosphere and excellent service. Located in a charming part of the city, this pub offers a perfect balance of old-school charm and modern comforts.
Upon entering, I was greeted by the warm, rustic interior, complete with wooden beams and a laid-back vibe. The staff were friendly from the start, immediately making me feel at home. The layout was spacious enough to accommodate both small groups and those just popping in for a quick drink, but it still retained an intimate, cozy feel.
I opted for a spot in the beer garden, which is a lovely addition to the pub. It’s tucked away in a quiet area, ideal for enjoying a pint in the fresh air. The garden was well-maintained, and there’s plenty of seating, both in the sun and shade. On a nice day, it’s the perfect place to relax.
As for the food, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of options available. I went for the classic Sunday roast, and it was superb — tender meat, perfectly roasted vegetables, and rich gravy that tied everything together. The portion sizes were generous, and everything tasted fresh and satisfying.
The drinks selection is solid, with a good range of beers, ciders, and wines. I tried a local ale, which was crisp and refreshing, complementing the meal perfectly.
Overall, The Prince Regent is a gem of a pub. Must visit while you...
