Grapevine — Restaurant in Canterbury

Such a shame as we always used to come here but it appears to have gone down hill since our last visit. We were met by a stand offish waitress upon entry who seemed hesitant to seat us despite having a booking. We were given a table in the middle of the courtyard right next to the speaker (they had some live music on) so I politely asked one of the staff if we could move to one of the other free tables as my dad is hard of hearing and we were struggling to communicate. We were told this was fine so we moved to a table in the corner, we ordered our drinks and then the original waitress came over and said we could not just move to another table, even though I explained I had asked a member of staff who said it was fine. She was very rude, not very apologetic at all seen as it was their mistake. By now our original table was taken so we were moved to a table near the bar (I mean we were practically sitting in the bar and could hear members of staff arguing inside... not great) The depressing view of the run down buildings just added to the entire experience along with the awful watery cocktails we had, we were put off ordering food and won't be...

What an amazing night at the grapevine last night. Had many nights here, but yesterday my friends arranged a surprise 'hen-do' and had booked a table of 12 at the Grapevine. Im not usually one to write reviews, but the hospitality was second to none, so they well and truly deserve a mention. The girls who looked after us were so attentive and couldn't do enough for not only our hen party but everyone in the restaurant. They are a huge credit to the grapevine and know how to please their customers and attend to their every need. They interacted with all customers and even joined in with some singing dancing and made it such a lovely, welcoming, and friendly atmosphere. At one point, the staff put on our hen party's masks (mine and my husband to be faces) and came over to the table all singing Bruno Mars with with a complimentary shot and sparklers They sure know how to get a crowd going and keep them going! I came down last minute from Portsmouth to spend my 30th with my family, not only did the manager make sure I had a table, her and the amazing bar staff made my night. They went out of their way not only to make me feel comfortable but enjoy my last minute birthday celebration. The cocktail tree was stunning. Friendly staff and the manager was out of this world, she fluttered from table to table making sure every guest was having a good time whilst still remembering facts about each table (crazy I wouldn’t be able to remember what I did this morning), the staff were so inclusive and didn’t judge or treat anyone any differently (lovely to everyone) and don’t even get me started on venue it was stunning!!!
