The Pier Ceylon — Restaurant in Canterbury

Booked here for our first experience of Sri Lankan food in Herne Bay. We are a couple in our 60's. We knew there was a singer on but we assumed it would be appropriate for restaurant dining. We shouldn't have gone in when we heard the volume the music was on. The singer who is used to fronting a party band was belting out up tempo songs at the top of her voice so we couldn't have a conversation. There were several people who weren't eating and who were shouting out loudly. As for the food, well it was tasty enough but there was very limited choice of curries-one chicken,one prawn and a vegan option plus a burger and a few small plates.The waitress did not write down our order and there was a mistake in that the roti bread was missed off our order and it was so long coming we had to ask at the bar where it was.When it eventually came we had nearly finished our mains and it seemed as though it had been heated up in a hurry. To be fair the waitress was very apologetic and knocked 10% off our bill. I'm afraid we were put off returning, which is a shame because I had high hopes for a new type of restaurant in the area. This is the worst Sri Lanka restaurant I have visited. We were in Herne bay for a holiday with family and after reading the reviews wanted to try some Asian cuisine. I personally like Sri Lankan food and have visited this lovely country twice. The sausages were burnt, the bacon charred, chicken was overcooked and appeared shredded, some parts were cold, the curry tasted stale and I felt sick after eating 10% of the dish Spoke to the owner and he thought that the food was prepared the right way. I have a feeling that the food is prepared elsewhere and is warmed in the restaurant and served. It was a bad experience after having a good time in Herne bay, Avoid this restaurant and please post some honest reviews...

Outstanding! We went in cold not knowing the area very well but going on the recommendation of a friend. The staff were really friendly, very attentive and polite, but the food. Oh good the food is good.

My partner had the chicken curry, I had the curry loaded fries, and we shared the mushroom side dish. The mushrooms blew my mind. They are clearly fresh, lightly coated and delicately seasoned. A clear symbol that someone in that kitchen knows what they are doing. The chicken curry was also lovely, and even the chips were good.

We didn't have much cause to be in the area before but now we do. We will happily make the hours drive just to load up on those naughty mushrooms and the lovely vibe....
