Sunset Fish Bar — Restaurant in Canterbury

Mediocre, heated up frozen food, (possibly from Iceland) Had better food at half the price. No takeaway wraps available, but apparently, they will serve you a wrap if you sit at the table at twice the price of a takeaway, and food arrived luke warm. And they fail to inform you of the price difference, until it is time to pay. Sneaky, VERY sneaky. £20+ for two luke warm chicken wraps, with a side of frozen shrivelled chips, but apparently, takeaway wraps are not available. Work that one out!

In summary, poor reheated food. Staff that did not seem to know know what was available for takeaway, and was actually told that I couldn't have a certain item to take away, but COULD have the same item if I sit at a table, confusion over pricing, and was charged DOUBLE the takeaway price for table service. VERY disappointed, and feel cheated. So Needless to say, I will not be going back, and would advise others to avoid this place. I've had better experiences at McDonald's, and that is no exaggeration.

Edit, July 2024. Three years on from my original review, and I haven't been back, thankfully. But reading more recent reviews, DESPITE the owners seemingly EMPTY promises to make improvements, this DIVE has failed to make any significant improvements at all. Still people complaining about the inconsistencies relating to food quality, waiting time, presentation, and portion sizes in comparison to prices charged. And STILL complaints about the DIRE customer service. The owners of this place are CLEARLY IGNORANT, and have failed to address the problems raised. The only consistency about this place, are the inconsistencies!

Take a packed lunch, or a picnic if visiting Herne Bay, because you may live to regret visiting this Mediiocre...

Since moving into the area, I feel like I've eaten from so many chip shops, so when myself and best friend sat here, on the beach literally, which is beautiful, people watching, in the sun, I decided I wasn't going to have chips, couple of cocktails indeed, which was almost perfect, but my friend did get chips, so naturally I nicked one just for taste, they looked a white colour, I wasn't expecting much but oh my goodness, how amazing, not sure what sort of spud they are, but absolutely the best chip I've eaten since I've been here, gutted I didn't order any, I couldn't taste the oil so the flavour was perfect, and a crisp outside, and a fluffy inside, I literally have never had a chip like this before, delicious, the side salad maybe not to everyone's taste, but definitely mine, just how I make a salad at home with regards to seasoning, my friend had scampi, she said was delicious, and was actually a lot of it, I don't eat sea food so I didn't taste, I would definitely recommend this lovely place, clean, tidy, the staff are very attentive, polite, cheerful, helpful, nothing was to much trouble, good job and thank you. Btw I didn't give 5 stars because I ordered the burger 🍔 and I was expecting more if honest, maybe a lettuce leaf, slice of tomato, of course this is personal taste, I also don't like slightly toasted buns, but was definitely expecting onions, so it was very plain, boring, not the best burger, but again that my personal taste and obviously being a seaside restaurant, and probably catering for lots of families, children, I can see why the burger is kept simple, but still would of...

Wednesday 8th September 2021 We asked for a table to be told by the manageress the empty vacant tables were for family’s and not just a couple like us. An argument then ensued between the manageress and one of the staff who was trying to get us seated. Anyway the upshot was we ended up with a table for 4 somewhat surprised by the manageress’s bad attitude to her customers and her own staff. We ordered our food and drinks with a very pleasant waitress. Next thing the manageress stood next to our table slagging off customers at the top of her voice. We also witnessed that she made a man who had already paid come back into the restaurant area to prove where he was sitting and to have his bill checked. It seemed the waitress had indeed made a mistake with the bill, no apology was offered to the man who left under a cloud very unhappy. Our selected food arrived and was OK but really nothing special, however be warned the Calamari was inedible and tasted like overcooked oil without a hint of flavour inside. It’s such a shame the owner was not around to witness this behaviour as I am sure he would not have been impressed. This business has a prime location and a captive audience but is run by the most horrible woman who is totally abusing this privilege because she can so we will be voting with our feet next time around.
