If you're seeking seaside indulgence with a creative twist, The Lazy Lobster is the place to be. This cozy Whitstable gem blends bold flavours with laid-back charm, and every bite feels like it was crafted with intention.
🔥 The caramelised onion and cheddar croquet sets the tone—a golden, crispy shell gives way to warm, gooey comfort inside. Sweet onion, sharp cheddar, and that perfect crunch... easily addictive.
🦐 The tiger prawns in satay sauce are a delightful surprise—plump, juicy, and swimming in a rich, nutty bath that hits all the right umami notes. It's satay elevated, with just enough punch to make you pause mid-sentence.
🐟 The smoked haddock arnica balances smoky depth with a creamy, herbaceous lift. It’s one of those dishes that feels rooted in tradition, yet fresh and surprising.
🐚 And the scallops? Silky, sweet, and pan-seared to perfection. They're presented with reverence—simple, confident, and utterly delicious.
The atmosphere is just as thoughtful: relaxed yet refined, with that effortless Whitstable charm. Whether you're strolling off the beach or settling in for a special night, The Lazy Lobster welcomes you with open arms and a...
Read moreStrange sort of tapas meal, where you order food and it comes out when the kitchen seems ready, which can be 90 minutes or so.
The sourdough was burnt. Not a great start.
The prawns came out next and had a really tasty sauce. Ultimately it was 4 prawns in a bit of sauce, and I can't decide if they were fresh or not.
The mozzarella covered in garlic crumb with leeks would have been great if served with the toast, but the toast was served an hour earlier.
The final dish, lobster noodles with caviar was totally bland, 3 prawns, noodles, a few herbs and no discernable taste of lobster to be found.
The meal with a bottle of wine (the pinit noir from Kent which clearly said from Argentina on the label) was over £100.
When asked how the meal was i said it was 'alright'. No further questions asked.
This could be a really nice place to eat: the restaurant itself is a nice venue. Some of the food had potential, but wasn't done well enough for the price tag (burnt toast, bland noodles etc) It came across as apathetic and without care, despite the diatribe from the waiter having to point out...
Read moreWe’ve been to Lazy Lobster multiple times now since it opened in May. Highly rate the consistency of delicious food and friendly service.
There have always been new dishes on the menu to try on each of our visits and we always leave with a new favourite dish!! The menu is a creative and interesting mix of small and large sharing plates. We had about 6 plates in total and left feeling very satisfied. Highlights for us this time were the fried oysters, broccoli with romesco and baked cod- DELICIOUS!!
I’ve read a couple of ignorant reviews on here about the restaurant being ‘overpriced’, it’s not. We came as a couple and paid £55 per head- with a bottle of fine wine included in that price, that is the minimum you should expect to pay at a restaurant like this. Just because you can’t afford something, doesn’t mean it’s overpriced 👍
Very happy to pay the prices on the menu as they are what you would pay at any restaurant of this kind. Well done Lazy Lobster- we can’t wait to...
