We arrived at The Star of Bengal at around 7.30 PM on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was already full to the gills. We did manage to get a table for two however. We started with poppadoms and chutney washed down with Cobra lager. Poppadoms could have been slightly crisper, but otherwise excellent. The starter was Shami kebab follwed by a main of lamb balti with a nann and Sag baji, all really tasty. Portions were generous. We had a bottle of merlot with the meal, which cost around £14 and was excellent. The service was friendly, if somewhat stressed. We heard other tables complaining that the food was taking too long to arrive. It was a very busy night for the staff, so could be different on a quieter night. This is a very noisy restaurant when busy, and I get the feeling they have tried to cram in too many tables. It was fine for us though. Wednesday evening, around 7pm, table of 4.
Waited an hour and 40 minutes for food before settling the drinks bill and leaving (foodless).
Ambience - was terrible as all the tables were complaining around us of wait time and service quality. Making it extremely uncomfortable for non confrontational people, staff were rude and did not apologise to anyone.
Service - When I went to try and settle the bill the main boss didnt want to listen to my polite request and only wanted to speak "to the men on the table". Honestly, never experienced such disregard for what I was saying based solely on my gender. Customers having to get up to get their own cutlery from the bar area.
Service - Terrible Ambience - Terrible Food - Apparently terrible based on other tables comments and...
Read moreWorst food ever, the staff, who I think it was the owner was so uneducated..When we entered the place he asked us what we want with a voice tone as he was expected to make us go away. When asked if it is possible to lower the light because was very sunny inside,he looked so irritated and begin to speak loudly and with an aggressive tone. The food was horrible..we eat a lot in indian restaurants and we know the food by heart so when we asked why the pila rice was white and tell him that the onion and the peppers weren't cooked he told us that every restaurant is different, again very angry. The food was full of oil until the top and couldn't been eaten..When we left he didn't even bother to say good bye,or thank you for coming..So remember..if a restaurant is full is because the food is great, not like this one, empty restaurant and awful staff and...
