Saloon Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Canterbury

Away for work in Herne Bay I needed a place to eat. I walked in and asked a lady if there was space for a table for one, to which she looked at me with a confused look like I was some sort of weirdo eating by myself. She then just pointed to the back of the restaurant so I made my own way to a table (big customer service no no). I then sat down and another lady approached asking if I’d like a drink, I said no I’m okay thank you but I’m ready to order. I ordered my food and no more than 2 minutes went by and the lady that took my order returned asking me to pay the bill? I said that’s not what usually happens, to which she replied “restaurant rules”. So I got my cash out reluctantly and gave it to the lady whilst questioning the lack of customer service I had just experienced. She had nothing to say but to shrug it off so I asked for my cash back and left the building telling the First Lady that she had just lost a customer.

It’s such a shame because this looked like a great place to eat, atmosphere looked good and the food looked amazing which is why I still have moderately high stars for. I was excited to eat here after seeing some good reviews but unfortunately I never got that far.

When I left I asked a local family nearby where there was any nice places to eat and they recommended A La Turka. I went there and had the most amazing meal, combined with excellent customer service and a lovely atmosphere.

Discrimination is not okay and this restaurant should be ashamed of their staff who are not demonstrating good standards of customer service.

The only way I would return back here to work is if you was to pay my bill!!

AWFUL!! Would give 0 stars if I could!! I was in the area on a business trip and this restaurant was highly rated. The look of the restaurant was excellent but don’t be deceived. The two young blonde female waiters were very rude from the start and due to their obvious lack of motivation we felt unwelcome the second we got into the premises. They were very prompt to take our order not giving us anytime to look at the menu properly. The one waiter was continuously staring at one of my colleagues making them feel very uncomfortable. When ordering our food the waiters manners was appalling. We ordered 3 steaks and a mixed grill. The steaks came out and they were not cooked at all. It was covered in fat and inedible. The whole plate was bland and cold. The mixed grill had lamb and steak. There was no meat on the lamb and the steak looked like a beef sandwich slice. They didn’t come over to the table once while we were eating to check if the food was ok. When asking for the bill the waiter came over and literally chucked the bill on the table and walked off. She came back when we were ready to pay and still had horrendous manners. No please or thank you. We will not be returning to this restaurant, and I recommend no one to go either. How they have 4+ stars is baffling. Worst meal I have ever had....

First time here and will unfortunately be the last! Took about 20 minutes before our Food & Drinks order was taken, the staff lacked enthusiasm and seemed uninterested in serving. The atmosphere felt tense and didn't feel relaxed! For the price of the food, it certainly was not worth it! The ribs were chewy in places (being overcooked, probably!), very fatty, grisly and very dry. Pretty much 70% of the ribs was fat & grisly! Yuk! No staff member asked if the food was ok at anytime and the staff were avoiding everyone but were more interested in talking to one particular table, that were sat behind us, seemed like they were friends and got a discount on their bill too. Would we come back and recommend to our friends, family and our customers? Sadly not, it's somewhere I will now avoid. Better Restaurants out there. Shame really, as we prefer to support local businesses, as we own a local business ourselves too but sadly the stuff were nonexistent and unapproachable, but quick to want your money when walking to the bar from the restaurant.
