Secret Garden Turkish Restaurant & Shisha Lounge — Restaurant in Canterbury

Very tasty food and value for money.

🔅Food: I had the Tava for £14.90, I got rice, turkish bread, the lamb chunk tava (very tasty), and two starters - the rice in vine leaves and aurbergine shaksuka (also very tasty) and flavourful. The lamb is firm but soft when you cut it, and not tough to chew.

🔅Portionwise, very good. I had tava for 1 person, and still have leftover which I take it home.

🔅Ambience Spacious place with wide ceiling opening with great ventilation. Walls filled with painting and water fountain at the back. Very nice ambience It’s garden at the back thru a small narrow hallway. At the front is kebab shop I assume of same restaurant as they have the same worker

🔅Service The server is friendly and accommodating. The service is quite fast too. Little mistake when it comes to the drink I ordered but it was fixed immediately.

🔅Facilities & Hygiene There are 2 toilets - one is with baby changing table.

However, I have mentioned this to the staff that toilet needs to be cleaned. There was pee pee on toilet seat, to be fair it might be from the other customers, but more attention or hourly check on the toilet would have been good. Also, the toilet definitely need a good scrub before they’re open. the staff told me the previous owner had passed away, and the place was closed for 2months. It’s only reopen for about a week, so lot of things to manage thru. Understandable, but hygiene is very important in restaurant service, thus I have to deduct 1 star from the review. The staff took my feedback nicely.

Overall, other than the toilet, I was very satisfied with the food taste, value, service...

I'm giving it 5 stars all round simply because it has such fab promise. Unfortunately, the night we booked no one else was there and just before we arrived the heating had broken. In hindsight, I wish the owner had cancelled the booking because we sat in a freezing cold room trying to eat food that was delicious but didn't stay hot as it was so cold outdoors! He tried to accommodate us with the 1 heater he did have and some blankets, but we were so cold we had to leave without having the night we had hoped for. That being said, the owner couldn't apologise enough, and made up for it by being so generous and had it not been so cold we would have stayed. The food was delicious, however, and we would absolutely go back (we have to, the owner made us promise we would!) in the summer when...

Literally come back home from visiting this restaurant. I actually picked this restaurant at random because I was craving a Turkish dish for a dinner date with my partner. Once we arrived we wasn’t sure if we were at the right place because it is literally a secret garden. We was totally taken back by the service from the moment we walked through the door till we departed. The staff were really friendly and the owner showed us the love and hospitality that that really made us comfortable. The food was SPOT ON! I ordered a platter for 3 and still destroyed our dishes. Full of mouth watering and finger licking flavour, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this venue especially on a nice evening small but satisfying dinner date. We will be surely visiting this...
