It's a shame to give just 2 stars as I quite like this pub but staffing shortages really let it down last night. Over an hour to wait for food and we had to nudge the bar staff not to forget our bar order which I had placed via the app. Appreciate things can get busy but this was only 6pm on a Thursday night. When it did arrive food was disappointing especially the Mac n Cheese which was very insipid and as such barely touched. Understand there was only one chef on (and the bar staff did flag the delay at the outset), but these large pub groups need to do better.

Popped in here after a long day at Wingham Wildlife Park for a bite to eat after having no success finding anywhere else. A really old pub with a huge history, dating back apparently to the Roman times when it was a theatre. No parking but the service was polite and fast, the food was hot and fresh and four meals were delivered to our table within fifteen minutes of ordering. A relatively small pub but would highly recommend! Typical Greene King pricing and standards - very impressive!

THE GREEN KING PUB IN CANTERBURY The service was good. The food; a great pub meal for seniors £5.49 for an appie (I had chicken strips but there were several choices) and a main ( I had the fish and chips with mushy peas). Friendly, personal and authentic English pub. Of course there was a Guinness to accompany it This was really a good meal for a great price. If you are in the area; check it out. Ask for JP, Amy and thank Mike for good excellent culinary skills.

There was four in our group. We confirmed and ordered 2kg of chicken wings as a sharing starter. The bar staff confirmed this would be a starter served before the mains. We ordered two fish and chips, one tikka with sides and a build your own burger. 4 drinks were ordered and we went to our table.

We were enjoying the cricket on the TV.

After 20 - 25 minutes a different member of the bar team brought two of the main dishes, mine and my partners. I explained that we had ordered chicken wings as starters. He was very surprised and clearly did not know this. He took the mains away. He returned shortly after with the starter. We are and enjoyed the chicken.

Twenty minutes later he then brought the mains which had been kept in the kitchen. My plate was super hot on one side and gold on the other. The chips were dried out and stone cold. My partner’s meal was the same her garden peas were beyond edible. The others in the group had warm food. It is clear that it had been stored uncovered in the kitchen on or under a hot plate.

My wife is slow to complain and said she would just eat the fish and chips. The other two were the same but curry and rice and burger are more palatable kept warm than fish and chips.

I pointed this out to our server and he offered to rectify this by getting me another portion of chips. I agreed. Ten minutes later I had to go to the bar as my gusts had almost finished and I still did not have my order.

Chips arrived and they were dropped and gone, no apologies offered.

This was not a great experience and it is down to poor staff service and...

Dropped in at 3pm New year's Day for a bite to eat. 2 x Scampi and chips took over 45 mins to arrive from ordering. When questioned after 30minutes wait all I was given won't be long now.... about 10mins. Staff very unhelpful as to explaining the delay.or apologising

When food finally arrived, again no apologies for delay, just stock standard excuse of We've been busy today I've only just come on. I don't know .May be down to misunderstanding.

Could they not be honest and say they messed up the order, APOLOGIZING and putting it right instead of their give a fxxx attitude, wandering around trying to look busy.

Staff attitude of blank stares and no assistance resolving issue ruined atmosphere. Food was unremarkable with a handful of chips and 6pieces of scampi with peas , hardly worth The price. And let's face it frozen scampi and chips is not difficult to get right Glad it's not my local.

Hello Alun Thank you for your reply that would be applicable IF THE PUB WAS BUSY at time of visit. It WAS NOT with only 4 orders coming out of the kitchen during our visit, and patrons leaving as opposed to arriving. with bar tenders serving the occasional refill. As for the other points raised in my review are you going to just ignore these or are they standard practice at your establishment. Please see othe comments from other reviewers outlining these issues of poor...

I should lead with the fact that I am not a difficult customer and this is the first negative review I have ever left. Booked for two and arrived on time on a quiet Monday evening at 7pm. Waited for the person in front to be served and then expected to be greeted but instead ignored while a guy pushed in with an order for 6 or 7 drinks. Eventually acknowledged to find that they hadn’t been notified of the booking- it was done that afternoon via the Greene King app. Told to take a seat anywhere and order at the bar. Did as asked, found a table, and decided what we were eating. About 10 minutes later, went to the bar to be told that there was a 45 minute wait for food! The place was virtually empty. Needless to say, we left without ordering. Why they couldn’t have explained with the wait when we entered was beyond me. Just poor customer service. We went elsewhere and had eaten our main course by the time we would have expected to have our food arrive there. There are plenty of places to eat in Canterbury, so this place needs to do better at communicating if it...
