Micro Roastery in Canterbury is something of a hidden gem, partly because it's not a recognisable chain and partly because of its location. St Margaret's Street forms a border between the older heart of Canterbury and the Whitefriar's shopping centre, so theoretically Micro Roastery is easy to find... but the shop front is understated and I've walked right past it before, though it does have a couple of tables outside! Beyond the service counter it opens up to basic, unfussy, recycled coffee bean sack-themed seating, there's more seating upstairs and a garden at the rear. There's a good selection of cakes (bonus points for vegan options) and it's quickly evident the staff are genuinely interested in coffee and not just putting in a shift to help finance life through their higher education. My party had an espresso, an oat milk cappuccino and an oat milk cortado between us and there were no complaints. They were well made, the notes of almond, dried fruit and chocolate created a very pleasant brew. Easily the best coffee I've ever had in Canterbury.

Cute little cafe with lots of drinks options and it looked very cosy inside with plenty of seating. We opted for an iced tea and a lemonade and both were delicious and very refreshing in the heat. Could be a bit more organised though as it took a while to make the drinks and then there was a lot of going back and forth for straws and lids (there were none at the front). Especially as the entrance is small and it makes it very awkward to have to keep shuffling past people for takeaway orders! Didn’t order any food but the cakes and pastries looked lovely and were decent prices.

I’m no expert but I know what I like and so far for me, this is the best coffee in Canterbury. We had lunch at The Pig at Bridge on New Year’s Eve and so loved the full mellow flavor of the Americano coffee they served we asked what it was. Turns out it was Mr. Coffee Micro Roastery. Happy to find that the quality is consistent in-shop. I had my favorite and it was the best I’ve had by far in ages (flat white with oat milk). Enjoying their roasts at home now. Thrilled to find the indy spirit I’m Canterbury coffee robust and flavorful.

Awful experience, extremely rude staff member. Myself and my partner went in to purchase hot chocolates which were overpriced, tiny, and tasted bitter. My partner had an empty cup from another cafe and was holding it to look for a bin. A staff member came over to our table, lent down infront of us and in a threatening tone said: “Do you have something against me? Is it my coffee, my drinks? If you don’t like it here then leave”. We had just paid over £6 in their cafe.. She then moved away from our table and was glaring at us from a distance. I told my partner it was childish of her and embarrassing for us so that we should leave. I really think it would be more professional if she did not express how personally attacked she felt, for no reason. She should have better manners, will never come back here because of this service we received. I have seen other reviews on here and it points towards this woman as being the actual manager, how...

I was visiting Canterbury with a friend for an event, and walking past this on the way towards the Cathedral we were both intrigued as we're both coffee fans, and as we was early we thought we'd try it out. The venue had a great feel about it, and it was looking great. I had a cappuccino and was really disappointed. There was an awful sour taste about it. My friend tasted it to see if it was just me and he agreed, at first we thought maybe the milk had seen better days or something, but my friend had a black coffee, and when we tried that it has the same taste to it. I don't know if it was the beans, the water or the machine, but it's put us off ever...
