Micro Roastery in Canterbury is something of a hidden gem, partly because it's not a recognisable chain and partly because of its location. St Margaret's Street forms a border between the older heart of Canterbury and the Whitefriar's shopping centre, so theoretically Micro Roastery is easy to find... but the shop front is understated and I've walked right past it before, though it does have a couple of tables outside! Beyond the service counter it opens up to basic, unfussy, recycled coffee bean sack-themed seating, there's more seating upstairs and a garden at the rear. There's a good selection of cakes (bonus points for vegan options) and it's quickly evident the staff are genuinely interested in coffee and not just putting in a shift to help finance life through their higher education. My party had an espresso, an oat milk cappuccino and an oat milk cortado between us and there were no complaints. They were well made, the notes of almond, dried fruit and chocolate created a very pleasant brew.
Easily the best coffee I've ever had...
Read moreAwful experience, extremely rude staff member. Myself and my partner went in to purchase hot chocolates which were overpriced, tiny, and tasted bitter. My partner had an empty cup from another cafe and was holding it to look for a bin. A staff member came over to our table, lent down infront of us and in a threatening tone said: “Do you have something against me? Is it my coffee, my drinks? If you don’t like it here then leave”. We had just paid over £6 in their cafe.. She then moved away from our table and was glaring at us from a distance. I told my partner it was childish of her and embarrassing for us so that we should leave. I really think it would be more professional if she did not express how personally attacked she felt, for no reason. She should have better manners, will never come back here because of this service we received. I have seen other reviews on here and it points towards this woman as being the actual manager, how...
Read moreI was visiting Canterbury with a friend for an event, and walking past this on the way towards the Cathedral we were both intrigued as we're both coffee fans, and as we was early we thought we'd try it out. The venue had a great feel about it, and it was looking great. I had a cappuccino and was really disappointed. There was an awful sour taste about it. My friend tasted it to see if it was just me and he agreed, at first we thought maybe the milk had seen better days or something, but my friend had a black coffee, and when we tried that it has the same taste to it. I don't know if it was the beans, the water or the machine, but it's put us off ever...
